Ok Here's a post with some usefull links. I will keep updating this as needed.

If you don't know about this site and you are a Windows User you need to know about this. This site will patch your os with any of the bugs in any Windows OS.
http://www.windowsupdate.com

A good piece of software to have. This will scan your computer for any kind of spyware that any freeware or shareware program that you download and install.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com or you can try spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
*NOTE* Don't have both installed or they will say each other is spyware. I like spybot better.

A good free anti-virus program.. If you don't have a anti-virus I recommend you do.
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php

This site is good for information on ISP's(Internet Service Providers). It alos has a great little toolset for testing your internet connection and the forums are helpful for tweaking your pc to get the most out of your connection.
http://www.broadbandreports.com

Do you have windows XP or 2000 and a great video card? Seem to be stuck at about 60FPS, even though you say like com_maxfps 120? Simple fix http://www.ryanmh.com/files/reforce.zip is a fix for a Windows Bug that locks your frame rate at 60 fps when you can get higher. All you do is unzip that run it, click auto populate, hit Apply and reboot and boom FPS allover the place :)

Oh right. I'm sorry, I misread your question a bit.

I've just done some comparing with my two computers and it does definitely take longer to right click on the desktop for some reason, with both computers. Nothing like waiting 5 to 10 seconds though. Also, it only takes long to right click when I haven't right clicked for a while or when it's my first time to right click on the desktop.
For a second time it always appears faster.

Do you have a lot of icons on your desktop, because I know for a fact those can slow down the desktop in its entirety as well.
I think you can describe 'a lot' of icons by five columns or more.

Otherwise I can't really see what the problem might be anymore besides a bit of a sluggish computer, but that's nothing you should worry about. Every computer gets it after a while. When I see my computer get sluggish, I uninstall programs I don't use anymore or games I haven't played in a long long time. And when the OS recommends it, I defragment my hard drive and check it for errors. You can do this by going to: My Computer, right clicking on the harddrive, choosing the tab Extra, and then click on defragment. In the new window, click Analyse first. It takes some time and afterwards you get a report. If it says you should defragment, then I advise you to do so overnight, as it can take a few hours to complete. Make sure there isn't a screensaver or anything of the like activated though, because every time some sort of data is written to the harddrive, the defragmenting restarts. Also try checking your harddrive for problems (the button above defragment in the Properties tab).
Beyond that, I have no idea what else it could be.

But it seems to me you're only having the first signs of a sluggish computer, so it's not really necessary to perform these steps yet.

cpu usage is 5% max when idle.
and like i said everything else works just fine...
including playing games, having lets say mozilla, photoshop and winamp running at the same time doesnt cause any problems.

It is possible that your computer is getting sluggish because of low memory or a huge cpu load. When you press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, does it show you're running out of memory or your computer is suffering from a large cpu load?

(Should you be running any Distributed Computing project, such as Folding@Home or, World Community Grid, check if these programs are causing the CPU-load. They won't slow the computer down, however because they release the cpu as soon as other programs need to use it. They do tend to taking a lot of memory sometimes)

Also worth checking is what program it happens in. Does it happen in only one program, or does it happen everywhere?

It also doesn't hurt to check your computer for Adware and Spyware as these too can cause quite a load on memory/cpu usage. I advise to use Lavasoft's Ad-Aware (free) and Spybot Seek&Destroy.

If it doesn't make a difference, then post again and I'll try to get back to you asap!

Virtual memory has nothing to do with your RAM. It's a part of your harddrive committed to keeping data much like RAM does.
If the virtual memory size is not handled by the Operating System, it is possible that too many files are written to the virtual memory, making it almost full. You'll get that message when there is almost no room left on your virtual memory.

There's a nice way to fix this.
Go to Start (or Run, or whatever it says in the English Versions) => Control Panel => System => Advanced => then you click the button "Preferences" under Performance.
In the new window you click the tab advanced, and then "modify" nearly the end of the screen.
In the new window you say that the virtual memory size should be controlled by the Operating System.thx for the help man but on my computer there is start then control panel, but then there is no system or advanced tab/part, and there is a performance thing but it is not anything other than a graph of the proccessors tasks the message hasnt been coming up anymore, since i posted this comment before, but thx for the help matey, if u think of anything else i would appreciate it
It's the second bulletin.

There may be a problem with your new memory, your motherboard may not be able to take that much, or your new stick may simply not be compatible with your old one. Check with Windows (right-click My Computer -> Properties) and see how much RAM it says you have - make sure it has the right amount.

Over the last few days my internet connection has recently started interupting my gameplay of JA whilst online with the message 'Connection Interupted'.

I have no idea why it does this and it used to be fine. My ping is normal until I get this message, it shoots up to 999 when I do.

I was just wondering if anyone knew why this might be happening?

I would post this on the link above, broadbandexperts.com but I thought you may be of more use as you know more about the game.

I don't know if this problem occurs whilst playing any other game online as I haven't played any other recently. I've also done spyware, adware and viruse scans but nothing has appeared.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Oh and I'm my ISP is Tiscali with a 512k connection which sucks at the best of times but shouldn't be this bad.

It also varies, sometimes it happens often but sometimes not too often. And best 20 mins and worst every 5 seconds (literally)

Last year I installed a new graphics card to play Jedi Academy. My computer has two places to plug in the monitor. One of for the onboard graphics card and the other place was for the graphics card that I installed. So after I had installed the new graphics card I had to start plugging in my monitor into a different place. Lately my computer has been freezing a lot. The other day when I tried starting up the computer it kept freezing so I kept restarting it. A lot of times the monitor would display the "power saving will enable the monitor to shut off in seconds" sign and then turn off so I'd have to restart it. Eventually when I tried turning on the computer the monitor just flashed the "self test" screen. Then I tried plugging in the monitor into the place that utilized the onboard graphics card and it worked, but now I can't play Jedi Academy and whenever I try to turn the computer with the monitor plugged into the place that utilized the other graphics card it displays the "self test" screen on the monitor.

Well, my computer sometimes displays the same notice at times. If I wait a while, it usually goes away.
Do remember to check if the cable is also correctly inputted in your monitor. Our power cable dares to get loose from time to time.

This is a question I asked a very long time ago but never got the answer to work.

I have old dos games that I would like to play on my pc which is running Windows XP home edition. The games won't work even when I start them with the command prompt. Does anyone know of any patches, programs, etc. that might be able to get these old games to work? If so, can you please name the cure and give instructions on how I can go about making this happen?

Thank you all very much ahead of time! :D

x.org 7.0 and x.org 6.9 share the same code, the only difference is that as stated above, 7.0 is compiled as modules.

I'd probably not notice any difference since x.org/XFree have been build in pseudo modules on FreeBSD for ages now :D

It's been a year or two since I've seriously tinkered with that kind of stuff. I doubt I'll invest much time & effort into it considering that the old HD my FreeBSD installation is on could crap out at any minute and make for a big waste. When I can get my hands on a drive with a better life expectancy I might go for it.

Problem with sorting out these kinds of things on *nix is it makes working with the comp too much of a hobby. It's fun but the system becomes an end in itself. :)

Gotta put a PS here: I didn't realize by 7.0 you meant "X11R7.0"! I can't believe my eyes! It never occured to me that an X11R7 was even possible. X11R6 was a fixture of the heavens like the moon and stars.

Yes my driver's in there: 9500 and above.

From what I read Cedega ia broken on FreeBSD though that was for 5.x and I don't know if it's been fixed yet.

I was afraid the card was going to be a problem. I had a nice Nvidia card that that worked great with Linux but it's fried and I'm stuck with this one. On the plus side it looks like there might be some radeon drivers w/3d acceleration.

Thanks TM.
