I will try to respond to your problems and questions as soon as possble. Sorry I cannot answer any Mac question I haven't touched a Mac in years.. Ok Here's a post with some usefull links. I will keep updating this as needed. If you don't know about this site and you are a Windows User you need to know about this. This site will patch your os with any of the bugs in any Windows OS. http://www.windowsupdate.com A good piece of software to have. This will scan your computer for any kind of spyware that any freeware or shareware program that you download and install. http://www.lavasoftusa.com or you can try spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html *NOTE* Don't have both installed or they will say each other is spyware. I like spybot better. A good free anti-virus program.. If you don't have a anti-virus I recommend you do. http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php This site is good for information on ISP's(Internet Service Providers). It alos has a great little toolset for testing your internet connection and the forums are helpful for tweaking your pc to get the most out of your connection. http://www.broadbandreports.com Do you have windows XP or 2000 and a great video card? Seem to be stuck at about 60FPS, even though you say like com_maxfps 120? Simple fix http://www.ryanmh.com/files/reforce.zip is a fix for a Windows Bug that locks your frame rate at 60 fps when you can get higher. All you do is unzip that run it, click auto populate, hit Apply and reboot and boom FPS allover the place _______________ When a Man lies he murder's some part of the world. I've got a friend having a problem with downloading. This is what she told me: "c:\DOCUME~1\JENNIF~1\LOCALS~1\TEMP\coz7tb3d.exe could not be saved because the source file could not be read .. Thanx Orion for the tip! And C1.4 too .My question actually was, out of the two (upgrade memory or vid card) which would you recommend? Money is a BIG issue, so I can only upgrade one or the other. So, which one? Adding another 256MB of RDRAM would run me about $150 and adding the Radeon would cost me over $300. I still also need to pick up my copy of JK:JA too! OK. Time for a long post to answer questions: First: Sniya: You can try to take apart the keyboard but, I would use that as a last resort. You can possibly get some compressed air to get some stuff out. But a really good tip is to take ur keyboard turn it upside down and hit a corner on a flat surface to get any of loose dust, hair or food crumbs out from under it. I believe its under the software section but you should be able to find it. They are really good and can probably give out links for windows 2k tweaking guides. Hi SaberWeildinKow, Hope Orion doesnt mind me helping out with your query, but cable networks are kind of my speciality. The prob with lag is it can be caused by about a billion things, the trick is ruling out what isnt causing the prob 1st. 1) If you are running any kind of peer to peer/file sharing software (kazaa/morpheus etc), then either make sure you disable sharing with others, or close it down and make sure it doesnt load again on windows bootup. The cable modem upstream can become quickly saturated which will cripple your connection. 2) Windows 2k and XP are essentially auto-tuning when it comes to TCP/IP. Unless you have manually changed any tcp/ip settings in the past. Head over to www.dslreports.com and run the tweak tester they have there. IT'll test ur connection and let u know what, if anything could be tuned. 3) How are your download speeds ? Are they much slower than they should be ? What kind of ping times are you getting to local servers? (try going to a command prompt and pinging your ISP's homepage.) 4) If probs persist and your pings are poor, try running some traceroutes. Again u need to goto a command prmpt, then type: tracert ww.yourisp.com > C:\test.txt This will send your trace results to a file called trace.txt on your C: drive's root directory. Copy and paste the contents of that file, and post it up here. From that I can usually tell where any network problems lie. If you need any help with the above stuff, let us know! Regards GL PS Sniya, if it really is a load of hair in your keyboard, then you can try using a vacuum cleaner with the upholstry cleaning attachment to remove the hair. If that doesnt work, you'll need to gently prise off some of the keys to get at the stuff underneath. Just make sure you cup a hand over the key you're prising off as some keyboards have springs under the keys that tend to fly off when the key is removed. On the other hand, if it's just general muck under the keys, then take the keyboard to the bathroom/kitchen sink, and use an antistatic foaming cleanser (e.g Noboclean) to clean it. Dont be shy about soaking the keyboard, just make sure you dont use anything with water in it. And make very sure you let the keyboard dry overnight in a warm place before using it again. Well there inlies your problem windows me. From what I remeber from working with Windows ME. Which is very little, lucky me That is once you get to something like that you are pretty much screwed and will have to reformat the pc and reinstall windows. Alrighty. Try this. My better computer is acting crazy. It tries to freeze when booting up, or within 2 minutes of Safe Mode. Last week, this was cured by a simple rebuilding of the registry. Well, this week, I try to restore the registry again in safe mode, and it freezes. Now, when it freezes during that, that can't be good. EDIT: Forgot. If I try to load Safe Mode or Windows regularly, I get a blinking underscore, and I guess it freezes or the registry's reaaaally screwed up. I hate Windows ME. Video card and ram are good...but there might be a problem with your CPU if u wanted to upgrade that. You might have the first generation Pentium 4 chip. What I mean by that is when the P4's were first introduced the chip was bigger, now the chip is real small. Meaning that there were dfiferent motherboards made for the two different chips. That also meaning the First Generation P4's are no longer produced and are VERY hard to come across. I got a question for ya: OK, here's my system: Dell Dimension 8100 P4@1.3Ghz 128MB RDRAM 40GB 7200RPM HD Radeon 32MB DDR (for Dell) Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Sound Card (also for Dell) I'm thinking about upgrading my memory or my video card. Any reccomendations which I should do? Memory I'd upgrade probably to 256MB (RDRAM is expensive) and a video card I'd like to have a "video in" port (RCA). I've also thought about upgrading the CPU(MB supports up to 1.8Ghz), but I think I'd get more "bang for the buck" if I upgraded memory or video. Any suggestions?
