1337 or l33t or other variations are a nomenclature formerly spoken by hackers, but now every damned fool on the internet speaks like this.. The phonemenon is called "leet-speak".. leet refers to "elite", which was used to described a person with hacking prowess back in the day (roughly 8 years ago now). The idea is to replace letters with numbers or characters or combinations of other characters that look like that letter.. eg "e" = "3", "w" = "`//".
Leet speak is also characterized by phonetic spelling eg "I rooted your box" = "eye rooted joor bawx" = "3y3 r00t3d j00r b4w><". Suffixes are added onto words for a little exta flair eg "skills" = "sk1llz" or "skill0rz". It was cooled back in the early to mid 90's, but now its ridiculous. Don't talk like this. Form complete sentences and use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation. The Internet will thank you. On that note I'm closing this thread.  _______________ My car is made of Nerf. |
