Greetings everyone... I have noticed several things over the last few days and finally things came to ahead tonight on the JA server. I have noticed over the past few days there have been alot of folks who are not curtious, rude to others, inconsiderate, and have shown a complete disreguard for our rules of order. This was never more apparent than tonight. They were heated arguments flying around and Luke was doing all he could do to calm everyone down. There were even comments made about the way he was trying to defuse the situation. It troubled me greatly until I finally called it a night and logged off. First off I think we all need to ask ourselves why we joined the Academy. If you are like me I joined to meet and be apart of something that aggreed with my ideals. Friends helping friends and to enjoy the better parts of the game. I did not join the Academy just to have another server to hop on when all the others were full, nor did I join to pop on now and then to gimp and lame others just to get a laugh. I joined the academy because I thought the code would make for intresting play and the challenge of meeting others and making friends. I have met many great folks that are apart of the Academy and I know there are many more out there I have yet to meet in game and I look forward to that. Now some have argured that the rise in discord is due to not having this or not having that...the styles are unbalanced...etc..etc.., but the truth is we have those among us whom for whatever reason just do not want to get along. Is it because they are bored with the game and just want to ruin it for others? Do they just like raising hell and causing discord for kicks? Or do they just simply lack the morals and ethics that the majority of decent folks have? Whichever case you fall under please evaluate the reasons you joined the Academy and make sure you joined for the right reasons. The Academy asked nothing of you but to follow simple and ethical codes. In return you get access to a server which 9/10 times is open and up for you to join and enjoy yourself on. They also provide training from those that have been playing sometime and know the tricks of the trades so to speak. The least anyone could do is show respect..... If you want to be respected by others be resepectable. Respect and status is not owed to anyone it is earned. I am a humble but reasonable person that tries to think of everyone I ask nothing of anyone I would not do myself, nor do I treat anyone the way I would not like to be treated.... all that is asked for the good of the Academy is that you at least do the same. Go easy on the JAK,JAT,JAC they are trying to help as many of us as they can and they are human no matter how good Luke is with that saber of his... And most of all they have feelings too. Please remeber at all times that the other characters on the screen are not just a skin/bots but another person, an every person has feelings. Its a game and the Academy gives those whom have a common intrest a chance to meet others like themselves and have fun. Its everyones duty to see that our rules of order are observed. Its everyones duty to stand up for your fellow Students,padawans,knights,etc... when they are being treated poorly.... We each have something wonderful to contribute lets make sure we do just that. Few thing you are going to have to keep in mind. First of all, the players coming to the Academy are most likely players that have spent a majority of thier time on the public servers and are used to a no-holds-barred Free For All, thus, you cannot expect them to behave orderly and respectfully. Second, it has been my experience that a great deal of players hardly chat but will fight and not stop. These players are young, immature and will constantly yell 'Cheater!' whenever they get beaten by a bot. Thirdly, and very importantly, there is not a functional administration mod running on the servers in order to enforce the rules and allow the Knights Trainers and staff to enforce the rules. This is a situation that c1 is (hopefully) working to ratify. All in all, you must demand patience, and then, restraint of yourself. Then you may demand restraint of others. My former Master (Bubu) used to take fiZZ and I on 'feild trips' to the public servers to show us not only the skill and caliber of players that we sometimes face online, but to also give us a model of what to do when we get mad or frustrated at another player we might encounter. _______________ I'm crazy, not stupid. |

yeah ive noticed a significant amount of lamers and annoyances on the servers as of latly. but im not too worried. once we get a map/patches/ and mods up, then everything should be going smoothy. _______________ "We keep odd hours...." ----------------------- They Live, We Sleep |

I really should look into the forums more often!  From reading this post and all the responses, I have to say I'm currently speechless, and have nothing not mentioned left to say  . It gets very frustrating to have to hear the things that go on everytime I log in... please people, don't make the public FFA servers more worth spending time on  .Vlad, Khal, I <3 you , thanks for showing your concern. _______________ Luke Skywalker

Yeah, I was there at the time as well, Vlad. Hiya again Just want to second most of what Vlad the Lad said, but more importantly point out how well Luke responded...he didn't attack (unless he PM'd them, LOL) or insult, but pointed out and warned. He did the job of a JAT, simply enough. Kudos to him.... There were some others there that also tried to help, and calm the...rebels , j/k.....down, but I don't think they made much difference.Ah well, I do think that it's easy for us to see the bad, but on the other hand I believe DB took two new players to the classes and gave them some pointers. For every irritating new person, I've seen one that isn't, and that has a degree of integrity. They will probably stay, and the others will leave/be kicked/be banned, or they will learn and improve... Every player that must be banned by the JACs is a potential loss. Their will always be some that aren't willing to empathise, but some may just have had a bad day, and may just have had one too many newbie questions replied with 'RTFM' or 'BUSY AT MO.' I may not know much (waits for Aratan or Jello to agree... ) but I try (operative word, LOL) to pass on what I do.This is the way it should be, even and especially for JAS/JAP/JAAs. We were JASs not too long ago, y'know. We should sympathise somewhat. Still, I agree that some players do not have a basic level of respect for those around them. I am not sure who you are "Not Here", but I don't think this post is just for those who lame and disrespect the rules of the Academy. This post should be for everyone to read and to learn that just because there is no JAK/JAT/JAC around, doesn't mean that they cannot handle a situation as Vla was saying in this post. I think you need to take into consideration that this post came from his heart, and then you have to come and saying something like.."Pointless post. You're telling the people who are misbehaving to stop, right? Well, let me tell you, they don't care what you say."? Remember that we are all a team, a community, a family, and we all need to work together as one. Keeping order does not come just from a tag. Each and every student here can make the effort to speak with someone who doesn't know the rules. Now when it comes to an arrogant person, who knows the rules, and just likes to get a good laugh out of laming, then thats when the JAK/JAT/JAC come in. Euh... I want to make things clear for you Not here... Well I think Vlad is going to agree and the other that posted before you too This post isn't meant to tell people who are disrecpecting the rules and laming to stop... because we know they don,t care... they are not respecting the rules after all. But what I think, is that Vlad wanted to make a point about this kind of situation and let the others know (the ones that ARE following the ethics of the Jedi Academy) to help where they can. Defuse the situation themselves if there is no JAK there (if possible) and start thinking along this line. Because as other have said : When we are working together (in a civilized way) situation like the one Vlad was talking about can defuse themselves pretty easily. Like the rules section says, get a demo, do a console dump and send it in. We deal with things in an orderly fashion around here and whining about it isn't going to fix anything. The people who run things around here can't do anything with out 1) names and 2) proof. We don't need speculation, name calling, and accusations. I understand the concerns here, and whole heartedly agree. There is a problem, but unless we give the leaders the proper proof they need, the problem will never get fixed. _______________ I must not fear . Fear is the mind-killer. Hi guys. I'd have to agree with Vlad I have seen the same things and have even tried to help out when possible. On the positive side of things, I was on the server last night with a JAK who shall remain nameless. We had a disagreement (no cursing or rudeness, just discussion), and the Knight wanted to report me. However, all the people on the server protested honestly and respectful. The Knight made his apology and after that, we talked it out and we got along great! It goes to show that with a little patience and respect, situations will defuse themselves. |

Agreed, Vla. Zoro-> Just because it's a game doesn't mean you shouldn't be polite and respectful to others. Playing on the Academy servers isn't a right, it's a priveledge (don't take it the wrong way, and as me being arrogant); if you can't behave, and ruin it for those who try to have fun (where fun does NOT equal laming others), then you have no place in the JA. Seeing all these posts on the forums makes me wonder if it's gone so far we need a news post. Something needs to be done, though, before the lamers scare off new students, or just as bad, teach them that laming is OK. |
