Welcome to The Jedi Academy Map Project! Recently, a thread was created on the JAK forums asking for our suggestions for a new map. Monty came up with the idea to give the map a University feel, and I ran with it! I've laid out a full site to reflect my ideas in the hopes they would be produced, and now theres a team working to do just that! Mapping Team: FaDed, Virtue Contact a member of the team if you think you can be of some assistance. Please, give any suggestions you have on this thread! Don't forget to vote in the poll! http://www.angelfire.com/oh4/nofrikinfun/ This post was edited by NofrikinfuN on Dec 16 2003 07:45pm. |

Flash: Nothing is final yet, so things may look a bit off right now. We'll keep the look in mind before it is released however! Huxley: I've sent you an email, and I'm currently trying to arrange a time with my group. C1: Thats a lot of stuff, so let me try to respond bit by bit. -Your dungeon idea sounds interesting, but rather than just making it into a rancor pit, perhaps we will make a lower level "Dungeon" that can act as an NPC battle "Courtyard". That way the dungeon area would have more than one function. (We're kind of trying to make every room carry its own weight so we don't needlessly expand the size of the map.) Sound good? -I'm not entirely sure about adding a lava pit or any instant-kill areas. They were removed from Doms map to prevent laming and stop the complaints he was getting, after all. My plan for the pit-duel area is to have a great enough distance between the platform and the lake to sever a duel, thus declaring the one left on the platform the winner. (Dom attempted this, I think, but didn't leave quite enough distance to seal the deal every time.) Hopefully that will make "Pit duels" more class-friendly as well. -As for the new outside area, The spawning area is slated to be in the center of a large courtyard, with a temple to the North, and classroom facilities to the East, West and South. Outer Courtyard entrances will lie between these facilities leading to one of 4 outer courtyards. There are also plans for a starship "Courtyard" which will be placed either above the current map layout, or entirely seperate from the main area. There are also some preliminary ideas for an NPC courtyard as mentioned above. We will probably stick to the one entrance and exit, however, to keep areas from getting too large and complex to load properly. -Weather and environmental effects have yet to be discussed. Currently, My group is working on a Yavin theme for the entire Academy. -As for eye candy, the central courtyard is slated to have some trees and plants, to make it look a little more "alive". I've also been planning to incorporate a waterfall or two in the lake/garden area of the map. Statues, Pillars and torches will probably be used fairly sparingly in most areas, to keep things on the less complex side, but may adorn the entrances to the facilities. (Or possibly be used in the Temple area, to give it a flair.) Also, the temple area is being planned as an obstacle course where the student will have to use movement, force and saber skills to complete the course. (This means interactive entities, hopefully... We'll do what we can!) -The Music hasn't been discussed yet actually. We'll keep that suggestion in mind. -As for the open ear for the public, that was the reason I created this thread in the first place. So as far as I can tell, we're going to keep this updated as often as we feel necessary. Feel free to voice opinions of the map, and anything you feel its missing, here. *Whew* Anything else? Keep it coming guys! |

Hmm... Since this is the 3rd map that I'm hearing about people making, prehaps we should gather all '3' groups of people making 'Jedi Academy maps' and see about what we can all do together. Between LaMagra, Kalheka, Eclipse and myself, we have about 12 rooms, including several star wars themed duel areas, a few ffa arenas, 7 of my personal movement training, jump training, classrooms and some new obstacle courses, and some vehicle/npc saber training maps. Lrod told me today that he is also working on some mappage, and we are supposed to talk sometime soon about that as well. I've been working on an Academy Map for like 3 months, since one of the JK3 betas. I hacked radiant and have been making a temple. I've figured out a lot of the new stuff in jk3, especially after the new radiant pack came out. Someone from your group should email me, so we can all setup an online meeting about this right away, so we can get an awsome map out really quickly with everyone working on pieces together. huxley@thejediacademy.net This comment was edited by Huxley on Oct 18 2003 04:03pm. |

What about making the Rancor outside. Adding some Npcs outside the ja so it will look more realistic. _______________ ...... |

Here is a few additions I would like to see. -Dungeon (perhaps a Rancor awaits for those that get thrown down there. Kind of like ROTJ's Jabba's Palace. -Lava Pit to replace water under bridge.(effects like steam, etc. are able to be done) -A New Outside Courtyard, bigger and better. Surrounding the buildings entirty as well many doors to get back in. -Weather effects (rain, snow, wind, etc. Variations of the map would be sweet cause we can add NPC's like wampa, taun-taun when it snows. More lifelike so to speak.) -Eye Candy (Statues, Pillars, Torches, Waterfalls, Force Pushable/Pullable Entities) -New Background Music (Love theme from Episode II, its quiet and soothing, won't annoy people) -Finally, more upgrades and an ear for the public. Don't want those mapmakers to only decide what "they" want in their map, listen to others, and everything would be much better. _______________ Get busy living, or get busy dying. I've updated the site once again! This time I've added a detail drawing for 3 of the rooms. The rooms are: Lightsaber - Platform Movement - Pillar Movement - Basics NOTE: These rooms will not be in the same building in the map. This was just the easiest way to draw the detail diagram for 3 rooms I had designs in mind for. Enjoy! |

Like I (think) I said, this'll be awesome if you keep it alive. |

Yes, Achilles, I think it would be better if all the mappers talked about how things should go, rather than making their own thing and going with it. I mean, look at what me, JP and FaDed cooked up in like an hour last night! Mayhaps we should form some kind of a mapping team and hold meetings and the like... I would like to conduct meetings to get some the thoughts from the different mappers, and see if they were willing to work together on the project, rather than each going his own way. I'll have to talk to some of the various mappers to see if maybe we can't get together a sort of mapping team. It may be slow-going though, as I don't currently have a home computer... lol |
