Welcome to The Jedi Academy Map Project!

Recently, a thread was created on the JAK forums asking for our suggestions for a new map. Monty came up with the idea to give the map a University feel, and I ran with it! I've laid out a full site to reflect my ideas in the hopes they would be produced, and now theres a team working to do just that!

Yes, Achilles, I think it would be better if all the mappers talked about how things should go, rather than making their own thing and going with it. I mean, look at what me, JP and FaDed cooked up in like an hour last night! Mayhaps we should form some kind of a mapping team and hold meetings and the like... I would like to conduct meetings to get some the thoughts from the different mappers, and see if they were willing to work together on the project, rather than each going his own way. :D

I'll have to talk to some of the various mappers to see if maybe we can't get together a sort of mapping team. It may be slow-going though, as I don't currently have a home computer... lol

Hold on lol I aint no mapper, I wanna learn but i can't find a good tool to help me with that (atleast not the the JK:JA Radiant).

A long track is good, but going all the way around may make it... too long. :D

You make a good point though... We may need to make swoops spawn at key points along the track, in case students crash up. lol

I dunno about back doors into or out of the track though... Seems a hassle for not a lot of use, ya know?

Oh, and to keep vehicles in th vehicle area, FaDed was thinking it would be better to just lower all the vehicle area, so the door stands a little above the ground, thus keeping swoops and the like inside. :D

Its easy just place a small fence around the swoop area's so they can't be taken to other rooms or yards.

As for a track around the map, it would be cool if the last wall of each room was from glass so while your riding your swoop around the map you can see whats happening in the other rooms and you can go watch it from the track.

And making the trakc to long thing, whats wrong with a long track, just make like some tunnels or teleports or doors back to the center so you dont have to walk the whole track.

Or make a back door in every room that can only be opened from someone thats in the room. Place a fence (small) there tho so they dont bring the swoop in. And if it doesnt work out with lamers and all just delete the swoop spawn point and done, you can use the track for force or FFA orso.

Wow Achilles... That looks pretty nice. :D

Man, we're going to end up with 15 versions of this map.. lol

Kow, the problem isn't so much the disposal of the swoops... More the fact that lame students would run people over everywhere! Basically, we're keeping the map as safe and lamer-free as possible... So don't go thinking you'll be getting anything out of the vehicle area. ;)

Speaking of vehicles though... I was talking to FaDed and JP last night about the new map, and we got to talking about having a swoop track that started and finished in the vehicle area, but went a full circle around the map. Then we got to thinking maybe the track would be too long, going around everything like that... So we decided maybe it should go through tunnels under each of the outer courtyard. Most tunnels will be just dark tunnels, underground... But maybe the tunnel that goes through the courtyard with the lake can be an underwater tunnel! :D

Anyway, I'm fully behind the wrap-around track idea as it gives a lot of room for a track, AND frees up space in the vehicle area for jousting and vehicle FFA's. :D (And admit it, the underwater swoop tunnel idea turns you on!)

There is no problem w/ too many swoops in my mind. Why not just make a tiny extra room under there for destroying the swoop when you're done? It doesn't take much more than one hit from a lightsaber to make a boom. So someone will die everyonce in a while...no biggie.

i just thought of a pretty cool idea. maybe like...an underground swoop track transportation system. have like a elevator that goes underground in every section of the map....and have alittle area w/ respawning swoops...then there are underground tunnels to get aroudn where you need to go. that would be kinda neat-o if ya ask me. :cool:

edit-- ahh..just thought of something. a problem mite come up w/ excess swoops laying around and clogging things up. maybe there could be a trash-compactor type swoop disposal unit at all the stops...

It's not really big enough to worry about getting on and off a vehicle I think... We could consider something of the sort, but we would have to make it safe... Free swoops would cause many problems with students being run over. ;)

I want to avoid teleporters as much as we can though... So me and JP will definately be looking at alternatives.

NFF: that amsay idea is really a good one. maybe even just different 'channels' that ppl can talk on normally...and a trainer can just be like 'ok class goto channel 5' or seomthing.


maybe (instead of ugh-teleporters) we could have a swoop based transport to get around the map. THAT WOULD ROCK. SWWOOOPS ROCK!!111

I actually asked Chosen if a "Room Chat" was possible in JO... It wasn't then, but who knows now? It'd be great to have a messagemode where you spoke only to those in view, or only those in a classroom.

That just gave me an idea though! /amsay (message) gives a message to those logged in as either Knight or Trainer... Maybe we can make 2-5 Student Logins for multiple classes. All the students would type something like /s1login (pass) or /s2login (pass) and then they would hear everything that the trainer was saying using /s1say (message) or /s2say (message). You would have to log in to hear your teacher, but I think its doable!

I'll talk to chosen about this... This may help relieve a little stress on class scheduling for JK3. :D (If we ever get our poor mod back!)

EDIT: As for the "when is it ready?", I'm not entirely sure... So far I've only got one mapper who is working with me on it.

SECOND EDIT: Oh, and about it taking too long to get anywhere. From respawn, no trip should be any longer than a trip from our current respawn to matrix. It would, however, probably take a while to go from one side of the map to the other... We're looking into a few of our options to make such a trip faster, but I'm not too keen on using too many teleporters. I thought about some kind of fast-track system, but it would be fairly unnecessary and tacky looking.

Just to be sure, me and JP will be playtesting the map at every key point, to make sure we're not going too far with it. :D

I think it would be great provided that you know how each room would work (Lightsaber target training ect.). Also, the map is huge. I have no problem waiting for load...but the time it would take to get from spawn to some outer room. How long do you think that'd take. Maybe not as long as I think but w/e. Since this is such a multipurpose map, couldn't multiple classes take place? The chat would be horrible though...Maybe if u randomly placed two flags, made it ctf, and two different teams? Or not...

If more mappers and all are interested in the map, I think it would be easy enough to make a small mod/script (I dunno the JK commands well) to allow a speaker to chat with only certain people. Possibly?

Or maybe it could just be the map for home instead...oh well

It'll look great if ya can get some mappers to really work on it!

Me too... As stated on my site, I'm bad at drawing things to scale, so thinks may shrink or grow depending on space needed. The plan for the vehicle arena connected to the courtyard is to have a short racetrack, (For Swoops and Tauntauns.) And maybe use the center of the track as a jousting sort of area. (For Wampas, Tauntauns and Rancors.) Also, I was thinking maybe the vehicle arena could also have a small area with teleporters leading to a large space area. (One teleporter will lead to each ship, and the ship area will probably be about the same size and shape as the outer border of the entire map. Whether or not asteroids or some similar obstacles will be incorporated has yet to be discussed.)

Just some more ideas. :D

Actually, FPS shouldn't be bad at all, since each area is completely blocked off from another. FPS can drop when way too much stuff is being rendered at one time, so really the only bad spot would be the central courtyard. :D (Possibly the vehicle arena or the space area, depending on what kind of scale they're built to.

As for the second lightsaber training facility, I'm kinda trying to keep away from redundant areas... If each area has its own use, it'll all come together much better.

Besides, right now there are no plans for an interior in the force training facility, so the first version will probably be 3 matrix-style rooms with dark, light, and nuetral force symbols on the walls.

Another option would be to create a basement area with smaller personal instruction rooms, like the 2nd floor in Kal's map.

As for the Temple area, that's currently planned as an all-purpose obstacle course... Hopefully, we can fit force, sabers and movement into it. (Think Kyle's trial in JO SP, or Jadens initial training in JA SP.)
