EDIT: This old thread was bumped so I assume someone at least is interested in the idea. In short (see below) the idea is to give everyone in the Hall of Fame a permanent comment on their profile, so everyone will know who they were and what they did to get in the Hall of Fame, and a statue in the map. I'd like to add something to this. With the new map released, the academy got itself a lovely garden with Vladarion's Memorial shrine in it. I say we use the extra space in that garden for more plaques or statues for the people in the Hall of Fame, I think it would create a very nice and solemn atmosphere in that particular part of the map. I have mailed the original idea to the council, but the council hasn't done anything with it yet. Let's see what the students think of this new concept. ORIGINAL: ___________ Dear JACs, JAKs, JATs, and fellow students In the light of the recent departures of many of our friends, the hall of fame has grown and is even larger than the list of JAKs and JATs. A lot of people will not remember all of them, and since it's a hall of fame, this is wrong. I suggest everyone in the hall of fame get's a permanent comment his profile providing us with the history of that person, ergo: his story. People in the hall of fame deserve to be remembered. Furthermore, I'd like to see a real hall of fame in the next Academy Map. A line of statues, in a long corridor, or spread throughout the map with their names on a sign. That way, we'll always remember them and they will always be with us. What do you think? Odan's idea is much more doable I think. Sounds really nice. MMMM, what about covering a wall with the names of the people in the Hall of Fame and having 2 or 3 statues for the most famous ones? I imagine a marble texture with all those names carved... could look good and solve the problem oh having too many statues. Besides, updating a texture is less hard than the whole thing, if it's possible. I like the idea of having statues, but like NFF said, that could take up more space where there isnt much room. Also for those with lower connection speeds, when it takes a crap load of time to d/l something 1 time, having to do it mutltiple time might just become a hassle (I dont have a slow connect, all hail cable!) But, my idea: Having maybe 1 or 2 statues. If any statue should be made, it should be made of JediSith999, the d00d who made this place. Whether he is here or not, he deserves to be numero uno on the map Doobie should have a statue, about the size of the characters shoe, so, we can easily jump on his head, and all that . then do the same for all the other JAC's _______________ |

hmm nice idea. but i think to put some solid statures at the wall of the Academy mapp wouldnt be so nice for the ppl in the academy. The map needs a nice aditionl place for thous. Maybe a big room made of glass above the aerea outside, you can walk into it over stairs. The room should be very nice and lighty but no normal duelling place. no weapons are allowed there. Would be nice in that way. And the point with the updating: its the first time that it has been updated since im here. (6 month now). i think its ok to dwl a new map if someone enters the HoF. Maybe there sould be an aditional symbol at his profile too. Keep in mind, any updates made to the HoF would just have to wait for the next updated version of the map. We don't want to keep people downloading the same map over just because a couple statues were shifted. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, but I don't know how feasible it is to keep up on it. Also, The current map project seems to be pushing some limits AS IS. I don't know how much more could be added, really. Besides that, there are two more issues. One being somewhat irrelevant to us would be the maps use outside of the Academy. I doubt those people would much care who is in our HoF. (Again, not a big deal as it is our map.) The other problem lies in who gets a spot and the like... I mean, we could just keep it based on the HoF list as it stands, but if you've already had someone approach you looking for some glory, maybe its not the best of ideas. Good idea, though! We need some creativity in the map! |

Hmm, good point. Yeah, the statues WOULD die if an /npc kill all command was executed. But here's the solution: 1) On the JA Servers, it is VERY, VERY unlikely that anyone would have access to this command except for the JAC who have Rcon, and maybe the JATs after c1 brings out JAR. 2) In the script that I mentioned before, all I would have to do is add a respawn tag that would make a dead statue (LoL) respawn a second or so after it has been killed (......LoL). Also an option. I don't know wether we should really create a hall of fame, or place statues troughout the map. Maybe we could put them in all corridors leading to the duelling areas, or in the garden area, around the pond While we're at it, a JAT (classified) told me that if the halloffamers get a statue, he wants one too. erm, wouldn't it be better to take a model with a skin, make it stoney looking, make it into a md3 prefab and place it in the map? StrikerX, that sounds exactly like the good old jedi academy map v2! a hidden room under sum stairs, and a hole in the ground leading to what was called the lost temple (lost temple was really lost after the mapper'sputer had sum probs) well, virt, would it b able to kill those hall of fame ppl with "npc kill all"? I think its a nice idea to leave a history comment on the HoF ppl's profile, and it could be sweet with a hall of fame in the JA map i think tho it may b a little hard to add new ppl there (and mabye increase the size of the HoF?) all the time, it would be cool... |

Statues of Ex-Members in a Map? EASY AS PIE to do. Simply make a skin of the member (a few of them had their own), then get one of us graphics wizards to manipulate the textures of the skin, giving them a "Made of Stone" look. You then, implement it into a map as an NPC, you then use an Incarus Script to freeze the NPC forever in a specific pose/position and include the invulnerability tag in the same script. And there you have it, a Hall of Fame Member, as a Statue in a Map. If the JAC decide to take on this idea, just come to me, I am volunteering to do it myself if no one else can be found. Btw, I thikn this idea is a good one, HOWEVER, the Map will need to be updated (this will take about 2 seconds to update the .map file, but the only problem would be having to re-compile the map) every time a new member is added to the HoF. Its a good idea I think. As for the HoF in a map though I don't know.
