Yeah, Tolkien even talked about it, i think. Some people suspected that the burning of the Shire symbolized a certain part of Tolkien's life, which he went on to strongly deny. I think to take out the burning of Shire would insult the memory of Tolkien, because I think he would not have put it there if it didn't have some sort of value to it. LOTR could have just ended with the crowning of the king, but it didn't, and there is a reason why. _______________ memento mori |

The final Shire-part is what makes the books special. The story continues, it doesn't end with the destruction of the ring, or the crowning of the new king, there is still a task to do for the hobbits, who play the most important role in the whole movie, it would be disrespectfull to Tolkien not to include that important part in the movie. _______________ Ceterum censeo Carthaginem esse delendam |

The Saruman scene has been cut from the finale version of the film but will be in the extended DVD. From what I heard, they never filmed the shire scene. Jackson said he never liked that scene so he didnt film it. I could careless if the scene was cut cause Ive never even read the damn books. Nothing against the books mind you.
