Yup thats right folks, its over, and we had barely begun.

It's really hurts me to see this thing end so soon, but I knew it was coming. So I guess we will have to wait until we can get a LotR TC :'(

I would help but:

1) I don't have M$VC
2) I got linux and dunno how to manage DLLs cuz I think DLLs are windows-only

I'd like to helpwith the mapping :D No i'm not the greatest- nor the fastest.. but I'm sure that by the time I've helped out here (if i'm allowed) I'll be able to make maps is seconds :P

As far as skinning goes.. i did it for a week and then got bored just because i would want to learn how to model as well (using someones old model is just boring.. i woulda wanted to make something new... so anyways... I would just love to help in the mapping side (as long as I'm told exactly what it i'm is wanted to do.)

If anyones knows any good sites to learn how to make good textures, it would be well apreciated :D

I said "modding", Bail... as in C++ with a focus on applications to mods for jk2 and jk3, right? :P

In other news, jk3 seems to already have a fairly sturdy physics system implemented for use of thermal dets and such. All I really need to do to it is factor in wind (because arrows are so much lighter than grenades :P) and allow the arrows to stick into ground and enemies. We may need to rewrite all of the shaders to specify whether or not arrows can stick in them, but I'll probably just say "arrows can stick in ground but not in walls, ceilings, or the sky" and leave it at that.

EDIT: or should I allow arrows to stick into the sky? j/k, lol...

That's okay RyTandus, that you probably won't be able to teach me modding (I Meant Modding but said Moddeling :P)
I just learned that FiZZ (my master) also knows C++:)

Sorry about my rapid departure from IRC this morning - my dad turned off the network hub which our Internet runs through because we had to leave for a New Year's Day picnic, without knowing I was using the 'Net.

In other news, I may not be able to take as large a part in this project as I had hoped. The topic of physics came up in conversation today, my parents asked what I was doing the engine for, and I told them about the Academy. Unfortunately, neither of my parents are very happy with the idea of my consorting with who knows what sort of perverted, drug-addicted axe-murderers there are out on the WWW. :(

I'm working on that, anyway. I'll still have access to the forums from public computers, and I'll try to do modding and stuff anyway. More on that in the coming days. And Bail, this means I might not be able to teach you modding after all, at least for the time being. I'll talk to you about that next time I see you on MSN or IRC.

PJ: Can you please ask your sword-modelling guy (who, btw, is quite talented) to get started on Sting ASAP so that I can start working on a short-sword fighting style.

As for the animation side of things, I'm an archer, so can help to make sure that you dont go screwing up the animation :D

I'll have to apologize in advance for the fact that I will accept no less than a damn near-perfect Bow animation, and physics. I want these arrows to fall to the ground :)

EDIT: I can skin, but not as well as I would like :D I'm going to see if I can get modelers and skinners from outside the Academy also. Anyone who can help us out here would be greatly appreciated :D

Programming will be mainly involve cleaning up existing bugs, adding animations, and adding AIs, and yes, that will be fairly intensive C/C++ with a side helping of assembly. Since archery is a fairly important part of any medieval universe, one of our first goals needs to be a working archer NPC with proper animations and AI. We'll also have to make up several new sword styles from scratch, especially since (assuming we're doing The Hobbit) Sting is "only a knife for a troll, but as good as a short sword for the hobbit". The existing saber styles were designed for longswords, meaning that only Gandalf and Thorin will be able to use them. New styles will have to be created for short-sword fighting. Another thing for the programming part: removing ALL of the existing weapons, and setting it up so that the player can carry multiple sword-type weapons, i.e. sabers, at once. And let's have a Gandalf NPC that uses his staff and Glamdring in the dual-sabers style (RotK, anyone?). :D:D:D

Both types of programming (modding and game-scripting) will be needed, cmad. Also: anyone who wants to work on this crew needs to download the SDK, and preferably also unzip all the game pk3s (assets0 through assets3) to a convenient folder.

What we really need now is a skilled modeler/skinner.

And unfortunately, my computer died (yes, again!) yesterday. It's in the shop now, and that's actually where I'm posting this from, but expect a few days, or up to a week of me reinstalling Windows before I can get down to any serious work. :(

EDIT: Wow, back from the shop already. Turns out it was just the power supply, so reinstallations won't be necessary. I'm still here, and won't be needing those few days after all. Let's get started! :D

Well, cmad, i think it is just scripting and stuff. I'm not too sure what kind of programming we will require for this kind of heavy duty TC.

I can map and program, but what kinda programming you need? Or you mean scripting by that? Plz explain. (if it's programming, then I can do C, C++, Pascal and little bit of Java). If it's scripting (for the game) I can do nothing :( (I was about to say something else instead of nothing but well, the warnings still hot :D :P)

ok, just in case that happens, I officially claim the position of G.D. of level design/mapping and programming (since the two have to work so closely together, and not at all because they're the ones I know the most about :P).

Jonny, don't forget to add Ulic, Bail, and myself to the op list on the IRC channel.

I just got back from seeing RotK, and I'd like to say that I will personally defenestrate (look THAT up! :D) anyone who so much as alludes to the possibility of leaving out parts of whichever story we decide to do.
