An idea on Star Wars Galaxies

Me and Lord Freedon Nadd have developed a plan to start a community for Star Wars Galaxies, the MMORPG. In the game, you can build a city of your own with friends. We'd like to do this with people from the Academy.

The idea is to make a town in which we are all equal. We share most of the money and gadgets that we earn. Speeders and all that sort of things can be used by anyone. There would be a few leaders (Freedon and I volunteer :P), not neccesarily the Academy leaders. Later on in the game, when the expansion comes out, we could start a fighter squad and join the rebels. These are all just ideas of course.

No Nadd, that's not what it means. Its not one character per server. When you join a server your game allows you to create so many characters on that server. There's a limit on how many you can create though to prevent urban blight. Do you realize how impossible it would be if you had a character in each server? Each one experiencing slightly different universe of events, that would be so confusing. To use FFXI as an example, they allow you to have additional characters but their's will come by paying an additional fee for each character. I'd really advise people to go to the official site here http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/index.jsp and read through some parts of the FAQ and message boards to get an idea of what it is going to include.

yeah, Buzz, I've looked at the site, you're right. It's 1 character per server and there will be 10 servers on release (all located in the US :(), so that'll mean 10 characters. That makes it a lot easier to find eachother and concentrate on the character that's in the "Academy" server.

I fully support this idea and I'd be happy to host webspace for it :D. Me and a friend of mine were already planning to get this game and make a PA from people at school. I'm gonna be a Bounty Hunter of course ;).

Its not one player for account. You are able to create several characters and even a Force sensitive one once you unlock that slot. The current servers are either east coast or west coast of the US. I think you do get to choose your server to start out with so you can coordinate with your friends.

I think the system requirements won't be too high and if you can run Jedi Knight well, that means 1024x768 (or higher) and a decent framerate, I think SWG won't be a problem. I can't say if you need an upgrade since you didn't say what system you have.

I guess around 15 $/€ a month + 45 when you buy it and first month will be free (unconfirmed by the officials). I dunno if there'll be alternative payment methods, but as far as I know credit card will be the only option. Maybe family of you has one...

I think there's no other option... If you want to play on multiple servers, you need more accounts, which means more money, so that's not really an option for most of us.

It sounds great! But I'm still puzzled about some subjects on SWG:

What system do you need? (i.e. Will I need an upgrade.)

How much will it cost, and how do those without a credit card (read: most people) pay for it?

With SWG only allowing 1 character per account (how retarded), will this mean we all have to enter the same server and stay there even if it lags for some of us, just to play with other JA?

Well I appreciate anyone who can answer this for me, and I'll definatly be up in SWG, tho most likely not right from the start. Cyaz!:)

I think I may skip Star Wars: Galaxies entirely, and just go straight to Knights of the Old Republic.

I've played the [heck] out of Neverwinter Nights over the course of the last month. If Bioware does as well with KotoR as they did with NwN, then I'm gonna be hooked on that for quite a while :p

The more I hear about SWG, the less I like it. I'm already a big anti-EQ person. Just knowing who is developing the game turns me away from it.

That's what I said in my comment, so, if everyone would just read Exar's Freedon's and my comments, you know what our plan is, our thoughts on this are the same.

as I said... But, we could make the Academy a safe place for Jedi and make it a law to protect jedi instead of killing them

we know of this, but it is not our goal to become jedi. Our goal is to set up a small society in which every1 cooperates.

While the idea of loads of jedi in SWG is tempting, i must inform you all of the logistics of such a thing.

1) As soon as you unlock your "Force potential" slot on your character, you get "Permadeath". Thi smean that when you die, you die. No re-spawning as a padawan or anything. You must start from scratch.

2)Permadeath is only lifted when you become a master (the developers think this coul dtake up to year of playing). Even then, when you die you re-spawn as a blue glowie ghost (like Obi-Wan in ESB and ROTJ)

3As soon as you become force sensitive you are marked as an enemy to everyone, watever faction. So your chances of dying increase 100-fold.

4) If you declare your jedi-ness to anyone, or if anyone sees you use the force, not only will thery attack you, but so will everyone else in the area.

5) there is always the chance of Vader getting wind of you and coming to put a Lightsaber up your ass.

(BTW, dark jedi will not be in the initial release. They will be in a patch or add-on later on)

How many people do you think know it costs money per month to just play the stupid game??
That's like a lot of money per year just to play SWG, so you won't see me there, i'm getting KOTOR, then................ JKIII wahoooooooooooo :) so once that comes out, cya there and i'll still be.......

The plan is to reach high levels in the game by sharing resources an money. If we establish a community consisting of academy members it would be easier for all of us to train ourselves in skills, get an elite job and play missions and quests. It would enable us to play the game with eachother, and the larger the group, the larger the variety of proffesions. We could have our architect build a huge academy headquarters and our politician govern our own city, let our military leader defend the base and our merchant make the money. We could be very strong, a save haven in the wilderness of Correlia, to protect all rebels and of course jedi.

being jedi is extremely hard in this game, so it's wise to group all Jedi, for that we could use the Academy.
But, we don't want to concentrate on jedi, just let the members of the Academy be toghether again, no matter what ur gonna be or how much time ur in the server.

The game will probably cost around 13 dollars/euros a month + around 45 once when u buy it. I think the first month will be free.

A friend of mine and I had a similar idea, he beta tests mmorpgs and im a veteran of eq. I didn't know you could build a city of your own but we were thinking about taking the first 6-9 months (how long it takes before the expansion comes out) to make characters in order to "unlock" the jedi class, once we figure out how to do so only share it with certain people.

The storyline of SWG is set so that vader and the emporer already exist but there are little to no jedi, with the said plan we wanted to recreat the Jedi council and academy to teach people how to unlock and become jedi.

Of course it would take great time and effort but an organized group of jedi in SWG would be a deadly force.

Is SMG on PC? I only saw it for XBox...anyway, yeah, i guess that'd be a good idea, except I'd have a to blow an additional 70 bucks or whatever on the game, then get used to it, then finally find you guys and join up. Wait until you're sure a lot of people have it, then try employing your plan.

I've read this :10.07 Will there be player-run cities in the game?

Yes but not at initial launch. Eventually, if enough players colonize a portion of the map, they will be able to declare themselves to be a city, elect city officials, decide what powers officials can have, and determine local laws and factional alignment. This is an important feature to us, we will have it in test when the game releases so hopefully it will be available for an update when players are ready to start making towns.
