Tonight I noticed that one of our players was using a staff that appeared to be longer than normal. I made him (or her) aware of it, but they did not believe me, so I looked in the Kensai_JA_Hilts.pk3 and here is what I found: Goldenbone_Staff { name "Goldenbone_Staff" saberType SABER_STAFF saberModel "models/weapons2/dual_goldenbone/dual_goldenbone.glm" soundOn "sound/weapons/saber/saberon.wav" soundLoop "sound/weapons/saber/saberhum4.wav" soundOff "sound/weapons/saber/saberoff.wav" saberColor random numBlades 2 saberLength 40 saberStyle staff throwable 0 singleBladeStyle heavy singleBladeThrowable 1 brokenSaber1 brokenstaff brokenSaber2 brokenstaff twoHanded 1 } Notice the saberlength variable is set at 40. I then looked in Assets1.pk3 to find the length of one of the built-in staves and found this: dual_1 { name @MENUS_STAFF_HILT1 saberType SABER_STAFF saberModel "models/weapons2/saber_dual_1/saber_dual_1.glm" soundOn "sound/weapons/saber/saberon.wav" soundLoop "sound/weapons/saber/saberhum4.wav" soundOff "sound/weapons/saber/saberoff.wav" saberColor random numBlades 2 saberLength 32 saberStyle staff throwable 0 singleBladeStyle medium singleBladeThrowable 1 brokenSaber1 brokenstaff brokenSaber2 brokenstaff twoHanded 1 } Notice the saberLength variable is 32. Also notice the singleBladeStyle variable is set to heavy (red) on the Goldenbone staff and medium (yellow) on a default staff. I looked up the default length of a single saber and I found they are set at 40. So, the Kensai staff hilts are too long and explains why I was getting hit at single saber length. I think this is more than enough reason to remove these and all hilts that change the default nature of the saber staff. Feedback is welcome. _______________ Gone but hopefully not forgotten... I agree to this. Using the Kensai hilts is kinda like cheating IMHO. I'm not a fan of custom staff hilts on the server at all, actually. One reason is that something like this may occur, and another is that if you're using a custom staff hilt and duel someone who hasn't downloaded it, they aren't able to see one end of your blade, which is VERY annoying!  But I guess it's not up to me whether to have these things on the server or not. _______________ In the navy and LOVING it!

I personally don't like the Kensai hilts. They look cheap, amatuer, and downright ugly (My opinion, so i don't want to hear an argument). I'm all for removing them. Noob you said that the blades are too short when made to the length of 32, but the length of 40 is an overcompensation. So somewhere between those 2 numbers must be the correct length compensation right? its only 8 numbers to go through so you should be able to figure it out. Tonight I modified the Kensai staves to have default saber lengths to see how it looked. Bad news, they are shorter with the default length of 32. What I found is that the Kensai staff hilt models without the blades are shorter than the built-in ones. I would even imagine the length of 40 was put on them to compensate for that loss of length. Unfortunately, its an over compensation Another thing I found is that all of the built-in hilt models are exactly the same length. So, with the blades on or off they are all the same length (the Guardian looks longer but the distance between the emitters is the same as the others.) What really needs to be done is make the cool looking Kensai hilts the same length as the built-in ones. Even the Maul hilt in the other saber pack is longer with the blades on. This is sucky. I think modders should really plan the lengths of these sabers better. If you would like to see a picture of all these sabers lined up next to each other, let me know and I'll e-mail you the pic. What I want to know most of all, is how the game actually determines the true range before scoring a hit. My assumption at the moment is that its the distance bewteen the end of the blade and the hand (visible distance.) I'll see what I can find out. _______________ Gone but hopefully not forgotten... |

I'm all for removing the Kensai hilt pack, although it can easily be modded to shorten the blade. Menaxia, I've been waiting for somebody to mention that Sith Saber... It's an INSANELY huge blade, and that, my friend, is DEFINATELY something you need to call a "n00b s4b3r." I don't need to explain why. Ancient, aren't you getting a little overboard? The hilt's cool is what you say, but you're getting a little- yeah- overboard. You know somebody can mod it — are you going to get mad about that, too? _______________ slorp |
