What Makes Tie Fighters Rock You Ask? | |

Been looking through the destroyer map data to get an answer to this most perplexing question and here is data for all the ships: Z-95 Headhunter: 2 x Rebel Laser 8 Concussion Missles (Straight) X-Wing: 4 x Rebel Laser 8 Concussion Missles (Homing) Tie Fighter: 2 x Imperial Laser Tie Bomber: 1 x Imperial Laser 12 x Proton Torpedo (Homing) Makes it look like X-Wings should just rip it up from that until you dig a little deeper. Rebel Lasers: damage 200 splashDamage 100 splashRadius 160 Imperial Lasers: damage 250 splashDamage 150 splashRadius 200 The imperial laser does more damage per shot in all areas. So big whoop. X-Wing has 4 lasers already! Here is the timing for the lasers: X-Wing: weap1Delay 150 milliseconds So, its 150 ms between each laser shot, that is shoot laser 1...wait 150 ms... shoot laser 2... wait 150 ms... etc. Z-95 Headhunter: weap1Delay 100 A tad bit faster than the X-Wing. Cool, on with the Tie already! Tie Fighter: weap1Delay 50 Tie Bomber: weap1Delay 150 Whoa, 50 ms? Can it be? Holy crap! This means for every laser blast coming out of an X-Wing, the Tie Fighter shoots 3. So, who cares the X-Wing has more energy right? Here's the data for that: X-Wing: weap1AmmoMax 40 weap1AmmoRechargeMS 500 Z-95: weap1AmmoMax 30 weap1AmmoRechargeMS 400 Tie Fighter: weap1AmmoMax 50 weap1AmmoRechargeMS 250 Tie Bomber: weap1AmmoMax 20 weap1AmmoRechargeMS 500 Do my eyes deceive me? The Tie fighter has more energy and recharges twice as fast as an X-Wing! So, there has to be something good about rebel ships, n00b, what is it? The hull and shields: X-Wing: armor 1200 health_front 450 health_back 350 health_right 450 health_left 450 shields 500 toughness 90.0 Z-95: armor 900 health_front 300 health_back 300 health_right 300 health_left 300 shields 450 toughness 85.0 Tie Fighter: armor 750 health_front 200 health_back 200 health_right 400 health_left 400 shields 0 toughness 75.0 Tie Bomber: armor 1700 health_front 400 health_back 600 health_right 600 health_left 600 shields 0 toughness 85.0 For a frontal assault, the X-Wing has 2150 frontal damage pts to chew through, Z-95 has 1650, Tie Fighter has 950, Tie Bomber has 2100. Remember the 3x faster shot rate and the increased damage of the imperial laser? For a frontal assault it takes 9 shots to kill an X-Wing from a Tie Fighter. This happens at the fastest in 9 x 50 ms = 450 ms. The X-Wing needs 5 shots to kill a Tie Fighter which can happen at the fastest in 5 x 150 ms = 750 ms. Another excellent feature of rebel ships is the concussion missle damage: X-Wing: damage 1400 splashDamage 1000 splashRadius 400 Z-95: damage 1400 splashDamage 600 splashRadius 400 Now you know, tie fighters will blast you out of space like nobody's business when it comes to laser only dogfights. So, the moral of the story is don't really exclusively on your lasers to defend against Tie Fighters. Sending a couple of concussions in the volley is the only way the X-Wing or Z-95 will survive. The best time to launch them is when you square off with the defenders on initial approach to the Star Destroyer. _______________ Gone but hopefully not forgotten... Personally, I don't think it would hurt at all if the all-around health for the TIE's were to take another cut. In X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-wing VS. TIE Fighter, and X-Wing Alliance, if you even got nicked with ANYTHING in a TIE, heck, even an ion cannon, you were a goner. Period. ![]() I will screw around with later when I get back, but I am sure it would be helpful to go in and mess with some of those numbers a bit to try and make it a bit more balanced. ![]() _______________ I'm crazy, not stupid. |

Thanks 3th ![]() The lasers can be fired linked on the Tie Fighter and the Z-95 as well. If you link, it has been correctly stated that the sum of the delays is the total delay before the next burst. So, for a Tie Fighter, that's 100 ms, for an X-Wing its 600 ms, and for a Z-95 its 200 ms. What I stated about how many shots it takes to kill a craft isn't exactly correct. I'm not sure why, but it appears to take about 1/2 to 1/3 of what I said. _______________ Gone but hopefully not forgotten... |

Katan, when you link the fire, you do fire all four at once, but the recharge time between linked shots is the same as you would get for the time between firing all four in non-linked mode. |

If you want to fire all your lasers at once, simply Press the Use Item key while you are in your ship. You can set a key to it in the control menu under the interaction sub menu. Note that its the Use Item key, not the Use key. (those are two different things ![]() _______________ ~ Honor is a fool's prize. yes. Although, on the point of how fast lasers shoot, you don't HAVE to shoot them 1 at a time ![]() ![]() ![]() Somethin' else ya didn't take into effect very , much was that TIE's suck when it comes to shooting for a very long period of time, can't shoot them for very long, no matter their recharge ![]() _______________ This comment was edited by Katan on Mar 09 2004 12:23pm. |
