Well, it's that time of year again! The NHL playoffs start on Wednesday and this year's matchups are the best in a long time! 5 of the 6 Canadian teams are in, with 2 matchups between Canadian teams; Ottawa vs. Toronto (BIG rivalry), and Vancouver vs. Calgary. There's also one "Original Six" matchup; Montreal vs. Boston. Unlike in past seasons, there's more than just 2-3 teams that are favorites to win it all. Here's all the matchups: Eastern Conference ------------------ Tampa Bay Lightning (1) vs. New York Islanders (8) Boston Bruins (2) vs. Montreal Canadiens (7) Philadelphia Flyers (3) vs. New Jersey Devils (6) Toronto Maple Leafs (4) vs. Ottawa Senators (5) Western Conference ------------------ Detroit Red Wings (1) vs. Nahsville Predators (8) San Jose Sharks (2) vs. St. Louis Blues (7) Vancouver Canucks (3) vs. Calgary Flames (6) Colorado Avalanche (4) vs. Dallas Stars (5) I'm, of course, rooting for my Isles, though they're not one of the many favorites to win it all. They do have a good shot to get out of the 1st round. I know our fearless leader, Mr. Doobie, is rooting for the Wings, while Axion, Ford Prefect and Flash will be rooting for the Bruins. Also, Dicemaster will be cheering for the Avs. I know there are other hockey fans here at the JA, so chime in with your thoughts on this year's playoffs! LOL @ Axion! You might just get banned for that one!!! I watched that Van/Cgy game too! I was hoping they were gonna go for the record. I remember one multi-OT game, where they were in like 3rd or 4th OT and the camera was panning around the arena (I think it was a Devils game) 'til they got to this little kid sleeping. The announcer (Doc Emrick) says, "Yes folks, that kid wasn't born yet when this game started!". I L'edMAO!!! Well 2nite, there's 2 games 7s: Montreal vs. Boston @ 7:30PM EDT on ESPN Vancouver vs. Calgary @ 10:30PM EDT on ESPN2 And 2morrow nite: Ottawa vs. Toronto @ 7PM EDT on ESPN Last nite's Ott/Tor game was exciting! CANUCKS WON!! (Canucks @ Calgary) The Canucks really need to work on the arrogance thing. They had a 4-0 lead over Calgary halfway through the second period, but by the end of regulation time it was 4-4. OT was boring, but Brendan Morrison scored a few minutes into the third, yes, THIRD OT to bring the Canucks their 12th OT win this season, their longest OT ever, and another chance at winning their series against the Flames. I'm watching the B's/Habs game now. Damn good game! The Habs are up 3-1 in the 2nd right now. Looks like this one is going to a game 7. Then it's do or die! My "newly aquired" Flyers have taken out the defending champs today and the Wings took out the Preds. I think the Preds did a hell of a job in their 1st playoff appearance, especially considering they had to take on a powerhouse like the Wings. Well, we'll see how the next round shapes up shortly. I watched the Bos/Mtl game. Kovalev tried to do that "I got injured" thing that Ribiero did the other night. This time the ref didn't blow the whistle! You reap what you sow Canadiens!!! Tonight, the Isles need to step it up a notch or they'll be down 3-1 in the series.  The important thing will be to get the 1st goal.BTW, if both the Isles and B's win their respective series', we'll probably wind up playing each other in the next round. You guys were the 2nd seed and if we take out TB, then top seed plays lowest seed. Also, I want to congratulate the Nashville Predators on their 1st playoff win and playoff shutout in their 1st time in the playoffs! As of today, all 8 series' are 2-1! Can you say EXCITING!!! Man! I LOVE the playoffs!!! The score of the Isles game was 3-0, again! That's 3 games in a row.
