That's right, we are famous, as we are known world-wide! Or maybe in Sweden. Here's some quotes from what just happened on IRC.

(Only_DtoX) But I read about this site in a magazine
(`Flash`) ...
(`Obi-Wan) in a magazine?
(`Obi-Wan) !
(darkwood) magazine? :o
(jello`) what magazine?
(Only_DtoX) swedish PCGAMER
(darkwood) really?
(Only_DtoX) YES
(`Flash`) www.thejediacademy.net?
(Only_DtoX) YES
(Leaf|JAK|) WERE FAMOUS
(Leaf|JAK|) W00t!!

Cool, huh?

Here's what he just said was written about us:

www.thejediacademy.net This site is organized training for those who want to play the JK games online on another level. The academy is driven by a bunch of playerse who have taken the name Jedi Council who take apprentices and teach them according to Padawan Master principles. The students practice their skills and when they are done they take their apprentices.

Not entirely accurate, but w00t!

BTW, how the hell did some swedish mag find out about us?

Well everyone should no that the descriptions don't always tell the exact truth. Besides, weather they read the description which was wrong or right, it probebly wouldn't change their decicision to come or to turn the page.

But usually they charge so much for advertising. This is great. I think everyone should be thanking the mag creators. But still, I am not entirly sure if the description would change anyone's minds. :|

Even if it WAS protected by copyright laws, you could do nothing (I say "you", because I'm a suede you know...). The only thing they said was that there was this place called The Jedi Academy, where people get together and play the game. If they had said it was THEIR idea, then you could have a reason to be sore, but face it, they gave you free advertising and a bunch of new members. I know several other ppl besides myself who joined baecause of that article.

Technically, the JA would be trademark of JS999, Doobie, and DJ (assuming this was truly their original idea). Anything original (and put into affect, such as this) goes into "Trademark Protection". Of course, this is in the US, so, I dont think we could prosecute ppl in Sweden for copyright infringement, since thats like make people in Sweden follow US laws :P

Hey I read this article, It is how I got in contact with the Academy (really), I have to give credit to this magazine, It really got me interetsed in online playing and Voila I am here.
P.S The place in the article where they mentioned the Academy, was just a small discription, you could say it was just the net addres and a little explenation off what the Academy is.
Take care.

Actually, it was this very article that turned my head in the direction of the academy. The article itself has nothing to do with the academy, the link was in a box beside the article with links to various fansites and stuff.

The article was written by "Always Black", which is obviously an alias. It was called "En Jediriddares Bekännelser", which translates into "The Confessions of a Jedi". The article describes some of the peculiarities that has arisen in the Jedi Knight community, like bowing before a duel.

There is a footnote to the article that explains a little. I will give it in both Swedish and English:

And in English, my own translation:

"Only a test
This is an experiment on the pages of PC Gamer. The article tells of an encounter that took place in a dark and distant place in the outlands of PC games. A place were extraordinary things can happen. A place far away from the spying eye of the developers, were the players define, enrich and evolve the gaming experience in a way the developers never could have imagined. Contact between people is the life-giving impulse. In the spaces were players meet, entire gaming cultures with their own rules, traditions, and intrigues arise. We believe that the stories and feats inspired by PC gaming deserve telling."

If you want to know more, you can always take a peek into the forums of Svenska PC Gamer, at http://forum.pcgamer.se. Beware of Swedish though. :P

squibit you're so damn picky!!! of course its not going to be exactly how it works here, you';d have to be a member, be around for a bit and conduct some 1 on 1 interviews to get all the ins and outs of this place, I think its pretty much spot on in a broader sense...

By another level they mean people who don't just logon and play, but people who take the game beyond the playing, and setting up a whole community like here :D

the padawan/master principle thingy, thats spot on, thats exactly what goes on here, we learn and teach people :D

about taking on new apprentices, everyone does that (hopefully, in a sense :S) byt helping people with their training and generally trying to improve everyones skill level, whilst upping their own.

Don't take everything so literally :D

Quote:

Another level? antoehr level to what?
This suggests we are elitists which while for many is true, for many is WRONGO!

Quote:

Not only the council take apprentices, "padawan master principles"? LOL what does that mean ? as in like the SW universe, well as they only allow 1 paddy per master, WRONGO

Quote:
The students practice their skills and when they are done they take their apprentices.

Two things WRONGO wit htis, 1) we are never done practising our skills, 2) we don't have to take apprentises!

All in all W00T and K0olies for being famos, but whoever wrote that knows little about us,

I think the council should rewrite it properly and send it off to sweeden for an update :)
