Alright, here is what I think. (/me knows he will regret this) No matter what ANYONE says, ranking has ALWAYS been about popularity. Down through the ages, ranked individuals have always been the ones who spend the MOST time in this community, whether it be on the servers, IRC, Forums. Etc.... But let me ask you this; are these not exactly the individuals that SHOULD be ranked? Do the ranks alone not warrant that the individual selected spend alot of time in this community? And by spending that much time, are they not going to learn more and gain more skill in this game and this community than the rest of us? And by spending the most time in this community, does that not make you Popular? So, I don’t see why everyone is screaming about ranks being a popularity contest. Of course it is, but not in the sense that you think. This is not High School, or Middle School, or any other Peer orientated group. It is not like the most popular kid gets the girl. Or the most popular adult gets paid the most, you see? The most “Popular” people at JA are the ones that spend the most time dedicating themselves to the JA and the JAS. Instead of calling it a “Popularity Contest”, is it not really a “Commitment Contest” and don’t always those who commit the most time rank the highest and deserve our respect? It is the kiddies that suck on the ass of a ranked member that turn this view upside down. Those use to being subject to a “popularity based society” whether that be school, work, etc.... I have news for you. Ranked members are like civil workers. They are here to serve the JAS and carry out the strong arm of the JAC. And the moment they stop serving, committing, spending time, they either retire or are booted for inactivity. Sound like a popularity contest now? They have jobs to do. We all just come and go as we please. They are not privy to this type of behavior anymore. So, I commend the ranked and thank them for their service, and you all should do the same. ((hihi, back to business  i like your comparison of ranked ppl with civil workers. yeah, its just the same. civil workers take their free time to work for something whish makes fun or is useful, but not commercial. and that are the ranks here too .I hope that changes the point of view to some ppl here who didnt understand what knights really are. thx for these nice suggestions, DM But not only JAK+ are civil workers. most of the JAS are too. this community woudnt be possible without all the great help of all the normal JAS here. some suggestions: is here anyone who didnt got the welcome-post of Bail? Or how many got 'the tour' by a JAS? So many got help for their first footstep on the servers by normal students... and much things more. who could blame some kiddys for that they dont understand how we are live here? they just dont KNOW it better. They live in a world where it is more important to get a nice mobiles and dress with expensive clothes but find good friends. well DM it was hard but i have a respone to this First off what their looking for IS the time spent in the community and yes it DOES warrent them good candidates BUT...just because you spend alot of time there doesnt mean your popular it just means your well known. The difference is this, well known means that your name is known amongst many and many can identify you and have hear actions you have performed in the past It does not neccisarily mean that they like you.Now lets go to the dictionary for the definition of popular I bring your attention to the first 2 definitions, Widely liked or appreciated: a popular resort. And Liked by acquaintances; sought after for company: Just because you spend a lot of time in the community doesnt mean you are widly liked which is why the term popular does not apply. You dont have to be widley liked by the academy to be a JAK+ you must be respectful and such but wether ppl like you is up to them. To people who think its a popularity contest: Getting a rank in the JA is all up to word of mouth and that's a fact. It definitely floored me when several of us posted in the Student Knight Recommendation thread about Leif and 2 days later he was Knighted. Word of mouth can take time depending on your presence everywhere in the JA. Think you are too good to participate in the events and classes or to be a Padawan? From what I see that's not going to get you anywhere. You have to make yourself known because there is a huge number of people in the JA. You have to look like you want to be something before anyone will make you into something. Its just like at your job, your church, at school, whatever. This isn't like a football team where you are handpicked and then observed by a coach. All eyes in the JA are watching you! _______________ Gone but hopefully not forgotten... |
