I started playing JK2 assuming I would get better at it. When I realised I wasn’t getting any better I thought becoming good at JK3 would be the best idea. I’ve been playing JK3 online since it came out around September and I have won less than 20 duels.
I’ve had loads of people giving me tips and pointers on how to improve but I'm just unteachable. Maybe I’m just unlucky or just plain suck. Anyway as I lose so much I don’t find the game fun anymore. I have a lot more fun playing SWG than JK3. So I’m officially retiring from the game. I will still post here and be on IRC a lot of the time because this community just plain pwns!
I’d like to thanks all the people who have tried to help me with the game especially my old master Jacen :)
Dunno if any of you really care but I just thought I’d post it.:alliance:

btw KitMitsu has left the building ;)

What are you talking about, fear? Winning duel might be unimportant for you, but it might not for kit. Trying to have fun at all costs? Fun is indeed the most important thing, but if someone's not having fun with this game, he could try another couldn't he? Or do you really think he should blindly pursue a not-fun activity, hoping it will become fun?

And how dare you suggest kitmitsu will be 'weak' when he does what he does, thereby possibly influencing his choice in a wrong way.

Don't be weak Kit; most of all, don't ever give up just because things seem hard and complicated. One day, some day, everything is going to be fixed. You are not solving anything by giving up, and switching to another game. Your "fear" shall stay there, until you get rid of it yourself by getting over it.

Plus, winning duel is of no importance. Heck, even if you are the best dueler ever, so what? This is just a game; it's here for us to have fun. There's no reason not to have fun if you lose at duels. You *can* get better in time. It's all a matter of will.

Don't ever give up, for you shall be considered weak. Try to have fun at any costs, and try not to prevent others from having fun. Giving up solves nothing; get out there and deal with it yourself.

May the Force be with you Kit,

Winning duels is not as important as you might think. It’s more important to just have fun. You grow both as a player and a person when you lose if you learn from that loss. It’s how you handle the defeat that’s important.

Yep, thats right. Also, try to use your keyboard to sidestep away from attacks and also jump. Then try and counter attacks (Dodge someones attack and get a quik hit at them). ;)

Still, it's up to you what you do. GL.

I think I've duelled you sometimes, and always lost to you.. :) so probably your all 'less-than-20-wins' are from duels against me. :D
Anyways, I'm currently taking a break from JK:JA aswell, you probably should've just take a break. I mean, it's not THAT bad you loose all the time. I like to just hang around and chill on the servers.. I don't need to be good at a game to have fun.. But I also totally understand you. It's really annoying when you suck at it, and can't seem to get anything done.. You get pis*#d off at the game, yourself, and other players who just honestly want to be your friends. You get angry at them, when after a bad duel, they start to give you pointers, even though you've heard them a million times, just wont learn to use them.. Believe me, I know what you're going trough.. I've played the game as long as you have, and I'm still (probably always gonna be) one of the worst duellers in the JA.

Anyway, I hope you still will be seen on the servers hanging around sometimes, plzplzplzplz :D then I would have some1 to chat with. :)

Take care, my friend..

Don't give up Kit somethings are harder to learn than other stuff. For instance Im a great dueler in JK:JA but I suck at microing in Warcraft 3.But Yeah like thomas said if you have alot more fun playing that instead of this then by all means play it.:)

Bro, Im a real old ass guy here at the academy, and I am 99% sure Im the worst duelist in the academy :P but Im still here, because it makes getting better all the more fun. Besides there is more to do in the Jedi Academy than just duel with sabers, try guns, of force ffa, there is bound to be something your good at, trust me ;)

bah to be honest...and please keep in mind that i'm making gross generalizations to make my point.

There are two general types of players. One is can become relatively good just by dueling alot and the other type have to practice techniques and tatics, whether on the side or in duels, to improve. However, more often than not, the latter type ignores practice because practice is a whole lot less interesting than dueling. As a result, their progress invaribly ceases as they focus more on win/loss instead of getting better.

IMO, that is why there is such a big difference in talent in the pub players, aside from newbie gamers, because if you are not of the first type and don't practice, your growth in skill stunts.

So what am i tryin to say...oh yeah. JA is a great place for the second type of ppl who needs a good amount of practice to augment their skills. So it is beneficial to take some time off chatting and to swing da saber! Oh yeah, have fun practicing!

Don't go Kit, it takes practice, and lots of people are good, so it's not easy to always win. Don't go man :(

I totally agree Aron...the academy is so much more than the game. This is the first game that I've not been bitterly disappointed in being pwned by someone! Most of my comments after being killed with the other bloke still having 50 shields is "wow...very nicely done! Salute!" and I mean it.

I don't think it's because of the game either, because when I was in the public servers, if I got killed I was getting very frustrated and angry.
But since I've been at the academy, I've rarely gone back to public servers.

But if fighting's not for you, if you aren't happy with duelling, there's a host of other things you can do...IRC scripting, forum talkies, mapping...just ask and someone will be there to help :)

Many people you have to WIN in order to have fun.
Well, you don't ;)

That's very true, but I don't think it's up to the Academy to try to change that in a student, and frankly, I'm not surprised that there are many people here who think that way.

Hypothetical: If you're not very good at the game, and you seek a place where you can improve (so you can win, and thus have fun), this is surely a site you'll come across.

I agree that the Academy serves a purpose different, and maybe greater, than teaching, but there is a difference between purpose and goal. I hope you're not implying that the Academy's goal is to actively influence my life :P And I also hope that the JAK/JAT/JAC perform their jobs primarily in order to provide the students with a better learning experience.

This is all slightly off topic though :P As I said before, have fun and good luck with SWG Kit ;)

What I discover more and more lately, is that the Academy actually has a different purpose than most people think.

Sure, we are a school, but we reach far beyond that. The primary goal is not to make every skilled players anymore.

My opinion, anyway.

The Academy is such a great, but weird (in a good way) place.
It is a community that was originally built with the idea "we love the game, and we want to help people become better at it".

Now, the Academy has grown from a couple of members to more than thousand active members.

It reaches beyond the "internet". The academy has made an impact on the REAL lives of many people.
It has changed their attitudes, way of thinking, speaking and acting.
At times, it is a refuge if RL isn't just going like you want it to. I know it was, and still is, for me.

There are so many great people here. We don't just chat; a lot of people actually care about eachother, including their real lifes.

Seriously.. I knew this place was special, but I discover it more and more lately.

This place IS special. It is not just some internet community. For a lot of people, this place enriches their life.

Let's get back to the point: The game.

As I said, imo our primary goal is no longer to improve people's skill. Of course, it is A goal, but we have a much greater privilege:

EVERYONE can make an impact on someone else.
Not just in-game. Also with real life issues.
It is not about winning, it is about having fun :)
Many people think you have to WIN in order to have fun.
Well, you don't ;)

I don't know how I should put this, but this is for everyone, especially the "newer" people:

This place IS special. It really is. You have to see it for yourselfs... I wish I could describe it, but I can't.
Please, remember this is a place to have fun and that we can ALL help to improve this place, and the people around us.

I think you made the right decision. Don't play the game because others want you to, it's you who should have fun playing it. Have fun with SWG!
