i wanted to call this the "official" JA logo contest, but i think i should get a JAC blessing first  (edit: yea, got DJ's blessing!)anyway, we now have a Logo Contest folder on our msn groups collection. so get out your copy of illustrator, photoshop, corel draw, ms paint, or whateva you got, and give it a rip.  also if anyone wants to submit something but is too lazy to sign up for the ja photo collection group then just e-mail it to me and i'll post it for you. here are some ground rules approved by DJ_Sith himself: 1. DO NOT use any copyrighted material. this means, no in-game screens of any Jedi Knight stuff. It would be ideal that whatever you create is all your own stuff. Also, be aware of any copyright issues on fonts you may have downloaded or acquired. Most font makers will let you use them however you like, they just like to know when they get used on something that's getting produced. DJ cannot stress how much he doesn't want you to use copyrighted stuff, so DON'T DO IT! 2. Make sure the idea (logo/text etc.) is reproducible at a high resolution for printing. (I.e. don't make a small image that looks good on the screen but will get all blurry and crap when blown up to a decent size and put on a T-shirt.) The ideal final format will be EPS, PDF, or some vector graphic format for ease of scaling. 3. The logo will go on a white (or light colored) background primarily, check the CafePress site for a full list of products. http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/products/viewall.aspx (Ideally the logo should have NO background to it, but for preview purposes, please put it on top of white.) 4. The idea behind the logo is that it be in line with a corporate identity. I.e. meaning this logo can stand alone or have supporting text. It should look good when reproduced at a variety of sizes, from a bumper sticker to a wall poster. 5. The JAC's would like to see a variety of quality ideas, so treat this initial go around as brainstorming session. DJ and the JAC's have very high standards that they'd like to see upheld by representing the JA with a design that can stand next to the classic logos of our time (the NFL, yes the national football league, is actually a good place to look at how logos today can become powerful iconic statements. For example, compare the new Patriots logo to the old one. http://www.logoserver.com/NFL.html Newer logos such as the Texans, Falcons, Titans, and Patriots show how a logo can be relatively simple, yet make a bold statement.) Ideas will be refined and developed by anyone that wishes. The final decision does lie in the hand of the JAC's. i guess, i'm looking for something that's a little more iconic. some graphic symbol that represents all the characteristics of the JA, the community, the learning, the dueling, the fun, etc. (i guess personally, i don't think a lightsaber covers the range of what we're really about, but maybe i'm overreaching ) then that symbol can be combine with whatever text you like "The Jedi Academy" or "www.TheJediAcdemy.com" or any other slogan that's apropriate. these pages have some samples that are a bit closer to what i'm talking about, nothing amazing here though, i got tired of searching on google for good examples  http://www.logobob.com/ http://www.logosharx.com/logo-design-samples/samples.htm _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! |

hey JP no need to bring that kind of "pwned" crap into this. this is a somewhat serious discussion about what might get used on stuff for the JA. if you have constructive criticism please share. otherwise, keep it to yourself. thanks. as for the graphics moby, i would just be cautious about using anything that involves actual in-game imagery or something that is not created by yourself, as i would not want any chance of legal crap slipping into this on the t-shirt/hat edition, i would suggest maybe not having the glow come all the way around the hilt of the sabers. imo, just seems a little odd for the saber to be glowing and then the hilt having the same glow around it. i'd also like to see a little bigger version if possible (to see more of the detail) and also see how it looks on a white background, as the logo has to work on a variety of products (now that i double check cafepress, most of which are white). overall, looks nice though for reference: Cafe Press product list keep those entries rolling in guys! _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! yeah, i think the "simple" approach is more in line with what a logo should be. something iconic and looks great on hat's, mugs, etc. like Ulic mentioned. there's nice some nice stuff there Halendor, i look forward to seeing some entries! also, i'd be curious about the font used for "the jedi academy" in the titlebar of this site. is that a font that people would like to see used in the logo? _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! |
