Great, I was hoping Knights would get their admin powers back. Even though they are dulled down from the JAT powers, they are a big deterent nonetheless. I think it really helps to have such a large group of knights, you can almost always find a knight or a trainer on the servers now. Usually a knight, but sometimes a JAT. Now there's always someone who can keep the piece around. That makes the academy a much more fun place to play.
Of course I remember when it was just the few trainers and there were no knights. Definately better with the knights around. _______________ A man asked me for a dollar, and I asked him what its for. He said "I have seen them". I said "ok its yours". |

I dont like the knight's passwords taken away.
They can act as both assistents during classes if people tend to keep talking, but they can take up an important role as peacekeepers of the servers too. And like aeth said, just take away the "fun" commands. No slap, no bunny, no explode. Just silence, kick and maybe sleep. I believe it would be safe. Knights wouldnt abuse the admin commands, since they are chosen by * hopefully * people who know them well. The idea was that the sub admins werent needed on the servers anymore. I think this idea was a mistake.

Allright, once more my personal opinion on this:
I always thought the knights were doing pretty well. We created a new system of handling the servers with those knight accounts. It was -efficient, because knights were higly motivated with their new status + they are online more often than JATs -quite safe, no "fun"-commands like slap or punish -extrem handy, with jkpsay, amsay wich helps ALOT in teaching and trials It SEEMED to me that everything worked fine, in fact there started something to build like an honour codex for knights. When one knight did something silly, others came and apologised for him (!). I thought we were about to be the nice guys you can always talk to and who have the last words in arguments or uncomfortable situations. I personally saw saw SOME knights that started to get a head about it, and that had to show their powers and acted just to get the respect. I havent saw any direct abuse of power or anything else, neither heared about it. So... WHY CHANGE A WINNING TEAM? And it WAS winning, or not? Correct me if I'm wrong please
Lets just say the council is worried about some maybe-egos between the knights. Well, thats allright, but why change the complete system? Why not just take out the ones that disturb? Don't abolish a system when only small parts of it don't work. A second reason I've heared was that the abuse on the servers was decreasing. That's true. But again, why change the system when it runs well? The abuse didn't become less from miracle hands... To follow the councils' ideas: -more abuse -> activate knights -less abuse -> deactivate knights -more abuse -> activate knights ... Is that really smart? Change the system every month, appoint new knights, trials, get them in their rank. No, come on, thats not a solution!
So what to do about knights, in my opinion? Simple: Give them the old powers (dont think they need more), get the the special knight-flair (when they feel special and are respected just for beeing knights, they dont need to do anything silly to get respect ) and select them carefully! Point out that most students will stay at Journeyman. The common goal is to become a knight... this may be nice, but I always thought that you have no "right" to become a knight like you have the "right" to become a j-man.
A good thing I would say is a test phase for knights. Look at a knights behaviour for about 2-4 weeks, look how he acts difficult situations, does he brag, does he stay calm, is he active etc etc. After that, discuss between knights, plus have a (anonym) vote on the knight. If the knights AND the students agree with the knight, he will get the admin powers and stay in his office. If not... he will become j-man again. What do ya say?
Oh and... IF you really stay with your decision to take the powers away, what is the use of the knights? I honestly don't understand it We can't teach cuz we cant keep the class calm+cant amsay with fellow teachers. We can't handle difficult situations cuz we cant discuss and can't sleep/silence. So... whats our use? To look good?

Thats the worst thing you could do. Would be really nice to hear espcially a JAcs opinion on this... I mean, they decided, so why not give us an idea why they decided like this

Look: In all my time beeing a knight, I used jksleep maybe two or three times. I silenced once and kick NEVER. But people always knew I COULD do, so my word was enough

Dice I totally agree, I'm sure the JAC's have heard of the incident the other day, whic lasted more than an hour. They had to use sleep just to get the guy to stop killing people talk to them, multiple times. And as Dice said, there is usually one or two JAK's around while seeing a JAT on the servers is really kind of by occasion...
I'm not saying give them the abiity to do special litte tricks or whatever, but I think crowd control is an important part of the knight's job. Let's face it, there's a problem on the server, you get on IRC, four knights show up, no JAT's in most cases, we need them to be able to help. _______________ [Oi Oi Oi!!] |
