Before I was a student here, I was your classic normal player. Running around pub servers, getting my butt whooped, and only swinging the mighty red. Wow I really sucked, it's nuts how far everyone here has brought me. I'm not ashamed to admit that I do get a little grin on my face going back and beating the guys who used to destroy me and boast about how good they are. But of course that kind of stuff doesn't matter anymore.

But never once in the game had I ever heard of this place. No one ever talked about it, I never saw anything about it on a forum, and I never saw a tag for the JA. I only found it digging through Google.

This isn't a 'how did you find the JA' thread, but it is similar. Did you ever know about the JA before you came here? Does the jk3 community know about it? Sure in some circles like Master, WoV, JLG, JRB, and some folks on the BWN do...but many of those people have the roots of their training from here (directly or indirectly). The JASA clan seems to know what we are and I think the X folks do to. But this is a small percentage of the entire jk3 community.

Do people out there have a clue of what we are? I'm not saying it's important if they do or don't, I'm just thinking outloud.

Ha ha, just read that forum most by that marker guy, man that guy sounds like a willy. I've got nothing against giving people tips, giving advise etc, in fact I applaud that. But telling people they have to bow, and 'this' is lame and 'that' isn't etc ha ha

About being known, I'm with Jacen :D the important people who make up the community (ie those who will still be around in a year) aren't that fond of this place, but *shrugz* what'cha gonna do ?

Sometimes, when I play on pubs, I get recognized ("Hey, aren't you that Knight from the Jedi Academy?";) by people I never met. :) The fact that they call us "the jedi academy" alone should speak volumes. :D

Ok...

Here's how I heard about the JA
a long time ago when Jk3 was just about to be released I read a preview of the game in a dutch gaming magazine, they warned the readers to not confuse the name of the game: Jedi Academy, with the online community at www.thejediacademy.net :)

Well, I never played Jk2 online, and started late with jk3, since we have DSL around here, but when I played for a week on pub servers I knew that this wasn't was what I was looking for, so I decided to give www.thejediacademy.net a visit, and well... now i'm here

I was doing a Google search for help on how to play JK 2, because I just didn't get it. Found myself on JK2.net which linked me here. I read the site, which sounded too good to be true, so I got on IRC and started asking questions in our channel. DJ Sith got to me first and answered all my questions. It was very exciting what he was talking about so I signed up and he gave me access while we were chatting. It was very amazing to me that the admin of the site would even bother talking to me. I knew from the start that this was going to be a very different kind of place. After about a month and a half, even with all the classes I had taken, I still couldn't win a duel on the public servers. I got disgusted with myself and took a leave for many months. When I came back to JK 2, I told myself I wasn't going to play on publics. I found people who played like I did on the home server and just followed them around. I started getting better, I started to win a duel or two. Then JK3 came and nobody knew what the hell they were doing. It was great having everyone at the same skill level. That's how I got a lot better at playing. I saw the evolution of tactics and evolved with the flow. I didn't have to know everything upfront to play, w00t! That's my advice for anyone starting out. Don't try to ask the best players on the servers to play. Find others who are where you are at. Make friends with them and duel them everyday. Evolve the way the best players evolved. Don't try to take it in too fast. When you get to the point where you are winning too much, branch out and find more people to play with. Keep doing this until you can hang with the best of 'em. At the same time, don't stomp on anyone while you climb in skill. Pass your knowledge down the ranks and mentor others. Just play to have fun and never take this crap too serious, its just a game after all.

Nah, Buzz, many of the CTFers are alright - the way the CTF community is put together is just different. Only a few unwritten rules, the rest is free for all. But yeah, some are morons.

Don't worry Jacen, from what I've seen of the majority of the CTF community I don't think too highly of most of their attitudes.

Yeah a lot of the community knows about us. The number of servers using the JA Mod in JK2 definitely shows that we are a known part of the community along with servers that have used our maps. We may not be as well known in the JK3 community as in JK2 partly because the JAR Mod doesn't have all the commands little admin brats want to have to show off their power over people. But hey the people that want to join here always can, and they can find us.

I never ever heard about the JA. I figured there might be some community somewhere but never saw any advertising on the MSN Gaming Zone or on the JK2/JK3 servers I've been to.

I never had heard of JA during playing JK2 or JK3. I think I do remember seeing a [JAS] tag somewhere on a pub while the person had a clan tag too, so at the time I presumed it to be a rank within the clan.

The way I found jedi academy was after searching for jk2/jk3 mods, and finally managed to be linked here. The only reason I was interested was because of the tagline 'THE place for Jedi training'. Otherwise I would have fobbed it for a useless community, which it turns out, is completely opposite to the truth.

Once joining the academy, I was keen to learn. I then went back to a few pubs, talked with a few people and none of them hadn't even heard of the academy. It took me aback, because I thought that this community was largely publicised and I had just been blinded from it :D So, imo I don't think JA is recognised generally, only from high profile people, who perhaps have less to gain from the experience.

I don't think a-holes joining the academy would be a problem, for a start... what's the point in joining an academy to lame when you can do it in pubs without the hassle of sign-up? Also, rightly said, that is what admins are here for, and the community to help out each other.

umm. Im 100% with Masta here. :)

also, there are "cool" publics with honor and ettiquiete'd players. so decide wisely where you guys "advertise" ;)

also, lots of servers do not tolerate advertising of other clans (althought we are not a clan), so be careful.

Well Masta what's good about having those supposed "a-holes" in the community is we have admins that can ban them if they get out of hand, which provides the observers of that ban with quite a good amount of amusement. :P

I found this place way back in the JK2 days through a link on a Radiant web site.

And yes, I enjoy going out on the public servers. And I wear my tag there.

I dont know if it would be better if the community knows about us...
I mean...60% of all players ive met in the pub were...lets say...assholes ^^''
(75% of those were all germans lol)
Well what im trying to say is:
Maybe its even better to stay kinda "in the background".The JA doesnt have any requirements or any "trail-time-tests" which ppl have to absolve/meet if they want to get access to the academy. They just sign up and are part of it...
Many ppl would sign up if they knew about us (only coz of those free and cool servers we got) ...some of them maybe wouldnt obey rules...some of them might just stay cool with each other and dont even want to be a real part of the academy. This might seperate the community and poison the harmony that has grown up within these walls which would slowly lead to the death of the academy.(its extreme but lets take it as a possibility)

I dont know, i havent been here for too long myself so i cant know how strong the academy actually is but ive noticed that it kinda prevailed a long time...it has been pretty unknown though.

My fate has led me to this place when i was young myself...havnt heard anything about it before i actually joined it...
