Well...I was wondering if there could be assistant teachers, people to help the teachers out when the there are lots of students??

Unless things have changed since I discussed this last, it's fine to post times for "unofficial classes" and have people join you there. You can even do it on the official Classes server as long as your times don't overlap with other teaching times.

Also, I used to teach an advanced redstance class on the JASE server. That went extremely well, and I had two JATs accompanying me (NofrikinfuN and FaDed).

So honestly the only thing that holds people back for teaching is getting up and taking the initiative themselves. I'm sorry to say it, but you kind of have to make a push to get people to actively try to learn things. It's fallen more to an attitude of "if I duel a lot maybe I'll eventually learn to be better."

I think, since I've started playing Jedi Academy, I've only seen two or three people ask for assistance. A bit depressing but it could just be an ego thing. So here's what I propose:

If you want to teach stuff, make a forum post, get people to "sign up" on your profile or in aforementioned post, and teach!

I've had assistants for 3 of my classes, and none of them have been my Padawans.

well that is how the academy started out, when u signed up u selected what post you were applying for, when there was enough trainers they switchedit to students only, now we select trainers from our own

Yeah but having awesome skills isnt the only thing that they look for in JAK's or JAT's. You gotta have an awesome attitude towards things, and possibly have people look up to you (not sure about that one). Skills are a plus, but the way your viewed as a member of the academy is the deciding factor (as far as I know). :)

Let's be frank; most of the times its their own padawan who helps them, not some other...

What did I say that suggested otherwise?

Well they already can Jake. As mentioned before they can teach anyone anytime, and some students are called on to help in classes.

The only thing they cant do in the way of teaching is advertise prearranged times for "classes" because they may then be seen as official and the JAC dont want people teaching anything they want in official classes, they want to be able to closly monitor and control it.

And true it is mostly padawans that help in thier masters classes. But not always

I have often seen trainers ask the more advanced students to teach the new players the basics while the trainer themselfs teach the majority.

And I know motrec for sure is letting me help in his duals class this week, and often lets ploo run through the basics. Neither of us are his padawans.

Heh guys I said forget the ranks, not important. I'm talking about teaching, why should you HAVE to have 3 letters on the end of your name to make this place better and do what this place set out to do: Teach Others.

I just think it'd be a good idea for those that know what they're doing to help out/teach, I'm sure the trainers wouldn't mind getting some help teaching the same stuff over and over.

The JAT have admin powers. The rank cannot be given to someone with an ok attitude and great game skills.

An Excellant attitude is needed for the rank because of the powers and responsibilitys given.

If the JAT rank was stripped of admin powers and made a lesser rank than JAK then I would agree on alot more JAT being promoted, but as it stand games skills is very far from enough.

On a side note, Of course the JATs have to be people who can be looked up to! Their are generaly skilled in everything (not just the game) and have modesty with it. It isn't a requirement that they are looked up to in order to gain the rank. but considering the qualitys needed they natrualy become looked up to.

ozzcoz I was a Knight once and I can tell you all I wanted to do was teach people (hard as it may be to beleive :D) I wasn't bothered with enforcing the servers or setting a good example, I just wanted to make other people pwn at the game. I just think its nfair how other people who are already uber, want to share their skills yet can only do so to a limited number of people, to me that just seems like wasted talent :*(

You only have to be a trainer/knight to teach official classes. You can meet up on the server anytime and share your knowledge, or if someone asks or obviously ould use a little help, whay not just teach them something there and then?

Seriously, i think you guys get too worked up bout being a ranked player. As a JA member you should consider it your duty to help others improve their skills.

Oh yeh, and i should add that if an official teacher sees you around a lot and can see you have knowledge enough to share, they will often ask you to assist them when you are in their classes.

Yes, Jake, I have to agree with the fact right there.
The Academy is of course being very careful that they don't make some lamer JAK, since he'll get banned/demoted for sure, and that's not good for the image of the Academy (because they banned one of their own Admins)
But I do get what you mean. It really takes a lot of patience to be considered for a JAK. It will take months, beyond doubt.

But I do suggest that if you really want to show how good you are at something, I would just go to a sh*tload of classes, be nice, be great, and stuff, help out others. No doubt that the teacher will be impressed.

For instance, I've seen some cases where a JAK/JAT allows a JAS/JAP to co-teach one of their classes. I really like this initiative.
But I think it happens to seldom.

To be honest this has always bothered me, they say game skills aren't important, but to be honest I think they are one of the MOST important (hear me out)

First off its nothing to do with the ranks, Bail is right, game skills do play a very small part.

BUT...

Some people do join the academy already highly skilled, some with the desire to teach other people. Its a pain waiting for something that will (lets be honest) for most people, never happen. I just wreckon that certain people who have awesome game skills should be given more consideration when it comes to teaching, surely a small slot in a weekly class is no harm ?

That's where the Knights come in :)

Teachers = JAT's
Knights = JAK's

JAK's are here to assist in classes, or to teach their own classes. They're also here to keep the peace on the servers to aid the JAT's in their tasks of teaching and administration.

You can't apply for JAK though. The JAK's are carefully selected and screened.
Patience, Knowledge, Friendly manners, Understanding, Willingness to help others, Respect for the rules, Support to the Academy, experience in the way the Academy works, and all round skills in the Jedi Knight series.
As you can see, game skill is only one of many qualities required to be a Knight. All others revolve around your personality. Generaly you have to be 'Good'.

When you have shown all those skills, you might (I said MIGHT) be checked out for a Knight, but this can take up to several months. So don't get your hopes up too soon.

Anyway, you need three JAT-recommendations for you to take the Trials. And for them to nominate you, they have to know you (That does not mean you should suck up to them!). So don't just ask for a Recommendation, for that will crush your chances, since you would have just shown the wrong behaviour, if you get my point.

I hope I've helped you with this.
