I think some things are getting out of hand in the academy at the moment, lots of new people who havnt read the rules and so many other silly political things, I don't care to mention. Main question was how to get ppl behave in JA servers? If so: Looking this one? Dont make things grow too big. Just remind non-behaving ppl from rules and tell them how they should behave... If they still continue behaving bad, do as is told in linked post... Remember ppl... The situation you describe is precisely the way it has been for the entire history of the JA. This is not some new phenomenon. It's just the way the JA is and always has been. And I don't know what's going on on Wireplay. But I'll be there tonight. I'm gonna agree with Javaguy on this. This place flucuates through motions every couple of months. In about two or three months from now you'll see somebody making a giant thread Demanding radical changes here in the JA. Don't take this hard, but I swear I'm going to start compiling a compendium of forum posts pleading for the JA to go back to the way things were in The Good Old Days (of a few months before the post in question was written). The things that such posts complain about are always things that have existed at the JA from the start and have never changed. The JA does change over time, for the better, in my opinion. Here is what will never, never, never, never ever change: Human nature. That being the case, there will always be rulebreakers, disrespectful people and just plain jerks who have to be dealt with. They are the minority, but they do show up and will always show up. This will never change. What I think has changed is that we've gotten better at dealing with them with a minimum of drama. I haven't been with the JA since the very beginning, but if you look at my profile number you'll see I've been around for a while. I remember the Spike Room. I remember when /amhug was enabled. I think I was the reason it was disabled. And one thing that has remained unchanging and predictable through the history of the JA is that a certain percentage of newer students, after they've been here a few months, write a post pleading for things to go back to the ways things were in The Good Old Days when they first joined. One suggestion I'd like to make to any new student is not to write one of these posts until after you've read the endless similar posts that have regularly peppered the forums for as many years as the JA has existed. For each one of us, our first few weeks at the JA hold a special place in our memory. And because most students only stay a few months, most of the friends we made then are gone. Plus our perception of the JA changes as the novelty wears off. So I understand thinking, after being here a few months, that something fundamental has changed for the worse. But it hasn't. If anything, over the arc of its history, the JA is just getting better. I submit to you the these are the good old days, and I'll add that this is just the beginning. However it may sound, they wouldn't get away with it if you had a rest. You're still able to report it to a JAK+ the next day. It really depends how offended you get. If you feel you're gonna do something stupid, then it's best to leave the server, jump into spectators, or whatever it takes to calm down. And if you can, I'd recommend taking a screenshot and/or condump of the situation before you do. |
