Rude or just spoiled sport?

Well I've kept my mouth shut long enough! Tonight I log onto the main server and begin to duel. It's been a few days cause I’ve been sick but it wouldn't take me long to get my groove up again. Just as my fingers were starting to relax I run into a dueler that can't stand being countered to death. This dueler who's name I will never call out only fights in red stance. That's fine with me. It makes for a boring fight but ok! Now this guy had taken like 30hp off me but I seen myself get three great counters in on yellow stance so I know I got him good. He stops the duel and this is our conversation from my condump...

(Him) Dopp
Dopp_Zero [JAP]: yes
(Him) Are you going to run away or are you going to fight?
Dopp_Zero [JAP]: are you going to fight on red all the time
(Him) Yes I am
Dopp_Zero [JAP]: then I will evade you as I see fit
The duel has been severed.
(Him) Guess thats a No

Now it could have been his lag that he was complaining about but from my point of view I was always circling his side waiting for his combo moves to stop so I can take more hp off. Now I'm sure he understood what I was doing and didn't know what else to do but is there any excuse to act that rude? I mean come on I'm not stupid! Now my complaint isn't really about this one guy. It's about many people that I have seen act this way. You are allowing your emotions to control you. There is no reason to take this game that serious. I told him I had no hard feelings but I’m worried about a small few that are more interested in a quick kill than really trying to duel. So you've mastered the timing of red. Good for you, but master all aspects of saber dueling not just red.
So how do I know this guy was only interested in a quick kill? This is just one line he said from another duel.
"I wish lunge did that much damage"

What are your feelings on this matter?

What you talking about, Bubu?! You sayin' that girls drool and guys rool?! You better not.
*grabs a large trout*

I remember, oh, so long ago in the JA, when I first joined (when we had BASE JK2, not adminmod or JA mod) the JA, I was first learning how to wall walk AND how to wall walk onto the (old) top of the JA building in the courtyard.

This frickety frick frick frickin' fool (him) attacked me. *thinks* Actually he's not in the JA anymore anyway so I guess I can name him.
Darth Executor.

He used the sniper and shot me unarmed, typing, and all that. I told him I was unarmed, typing, and all that :P :D :P :D :P :D :) and he simply told me: "Aww boohoo go cry on somebody else's shoulder"

Him and Cheetah (when he was lame) continually attacked me unprovoked, but I couldn't record, so I just took snapshots (and I was dead) so that wasn't good enough proof. And also I didn't know where to report. I do now.

Also at that same time Dicemaster (when he was really, REALLY lame :D :P :D :P) was laming me, but that's all history when the JA was a n00b place, and where the platform room was made up of three platforms, and people got bactas/shields in the Matrix by jumping up to the window, people dueled with the health they had, when people continually kicked you into the spikes, when everybody asked how to take a screenshot, where "LAMER" was continually shouted on the servers, when DJ's server was POPULAR, where the secondary server's password was found out and this lamer's clan infested it, where we had NO custom skins WHATSOEVER, and when later we got Padme v2, when people were searching for DJ's rumored porn room (there is none, trust me :P), where you could instantly get changed to JAT, JAK or JAC, where Emperor Lightning was the ONLY and FIRST JAK, when Yun threw (boring) RPing classes (reinactment isn't neccessarily role playing), when JJ never drank :eek::eek:, when people always asked "how do you bind? How to you record? How do you take a screenshot? WTF LOL ROFL LMAO HOW DO YOU PICK MY BUTT?! and How do you jump off a Bespin Building?," where there were no observation PLATFORMS (wooden) in the rooms, when we used DJ's porn magazines to use the potty, when nobody (NOBODY!!!) went into the three platform room (now known as pillar/vortex), when I used Jan , when the JA site had the old smelly layout, when DJ never shaved his legs, when Chicka never existed to harass me, and when the Belouve family all started (and there was only ONE Belouve :shock::shock:)

Let us pray to God that I stopped to take a breath every comma. Let us pray to God that THAT !!SENTENCE!! was definatley a run-on sentence.

So what were we talking about again?

I miss the old pillar. Kalheka and I would spend hours doing kick fights and duels up there.

Thankfully, Kal saved the day with the PnP room on advent!

I say, if it's a kick fight, try to attack them as they get back on if you think you can. A saber fight, I usually back off until they're on.

The way I see it, if you're fighting in the platform/pit room, then the duel is meant to be over if you drop off. The fight is meant to take place on the platfrom, the water is just to make sure you don't die, but you still lose if you fall off. If you wanna give your opponent another chance and let them back on, then fair enough.

For fun duels and learning, I'll fight on a flat open surface like matrix, as you can learn peoples stances and stuff.

Platform is good for training to fight in enclosed areas or on lvls like ns_streets, but personally I prefer my arena duels to my specialised area duels.

Well it is all fine and dandy, but I'm not going to wait to get hit if someone jumps back on the platform in an aggressive approach towards me.

Well, the protocol I described is how 95% of the people at the Academy already do it, so I think the establishment of the protocol is a fait acompli. I just wanted to make sure that the minority who don't know about it find out.

Javaguy I don't really like your suggested etiquette for dueling on the platform. Granted you should try to stay above your opponent so the duel doesn't sever. You really shouldn't attack them as they are making their way back up. What I usually do is stand on the end of the platform. If they jump up and away from me or a good distance I won't attack untill they are set again. If they jump towards me I consider that an aggressive action and am ready to attack. But during the duel if your opponent gets knocked off you could drop down and fight him in the water below.

I'd like to add a short note on courtesy in the platform room:

When dueling on the platform, if one duelist falls off and has to climb back up, it's considered polite to move to the end of the platform that's to the left if you're standing at the door facing the platform, wait for him to regain the platform, and re-bow before resuming.

Most people observe this courtesy, but on a couple of ocasions I've actually been attacked while jumping back onto the platform.

I LOVE the platform room. I loved it better when it was the spike room, though it was frustrating that knocking an opponent into the pit often severed the duel before he died.

Oh, another note on platform room duels: If your opponent falls, try to stay more or less above him until he reaches the ramp. If you move too far away from him it severs the duel. Sometimes there's little or nothing you can do to avoid this, and the duel just gets severed through no fault of anyone, but you should at least try because severing a duel when you _can_ avoid it is Uncool.

People have tried to attack me while I'm bowing before, had someone who I choose to keep nameless try to YDFA while I was bowing, so I quickly DFA'ed him and won the fight a short while later :)

no it's not cool. no duh! :D

but think about it. you come up for a duel. you happen to be really close to your opponent at the start. you bow, you get slashed, you shrug at your opponent's fair play, you either kick the crap out of your opponent or you get the crap kicked out of you. what have you lost, really? nothing. in fact, you've gained something. you now know a little more about your opponent's personality. when 3 weeks later the same player realizes that you're a much better player than him/her and asks you to be his master, you politely send him to where i'm thinking. :P

that's all. no biggie.

"when bowing never take yer eyes off the other guy"

isn't the whole point of bowing to show respect and trust towards your opponent by taking your eyes off him/her? at least that's what i think. and i have no problem bowing even 2cm from the guy. if he attacks me right away... well that just shows me what kind of a guy he really is... or girl.. ;)

Well if it involves breaking the rules of the server, which is chatkilling, or attacking whilst person is cahtting then yes thats laming :)

As far as unarmed goes, in regular FFA mode on the JA servers its extremly forbidden. But in a duel you have agreed to have a fight with this person meaning you consent to being attacked and so if you put your saber down without good reason, like you're lagging or are typing then you are open game.

Putting your saber down in a duel just because you think it'll look kool is only a good idea if you do actually want to look kool. But don't complain or be surprised if you get attacked.

It is not so much that he doesn't bow (although I do consider bowing a important thing before a duel) it is that he attacks me while I'm bowing and while I'm typing + running like a wild to get away from his loose saber.

Saber off is a good form of etiquette and I know most people respect it. The problem comes when people abuse this. I've been sparring against a few people recently who, after bowing, jump forward, saber still down and then swing straight from saber off to ignite. That means they would always get the first hit as apparently you're not suppsoed to hit an unarmed person.

For me, the start of a duel is as soon as you've challenged each other and its said 'BEGIN'. I still bow but I don't think less of people who don't. The thing is, I have to obey the academy rules which prohibits me from attacking unarmed people. So why should unarmed people get away with attacking off guard people ?

I personally still attack people with saber off if they make aggresive actions towards me. ie. jumping towards me, walking either towards me or side to side, taunting. If I get blamed for attacking unarmed peope because of this then its their own fault and nothing to do with me.

<I havn't actually met anyone whose complained about me attacking them if they're flying at me unarmed but I can see it happeneing>

If there's one thing I like about JA it is that I actualy met the first really rude person on the servers today.

As I was bowing he suddenly attacked me and I kept my saber down to let him know I didn't wanted to start just yet and I even wrote "wait!" but he kept attacking me until I finally managed to get trough to him. As I stood there typing to let him know the polite way to do it would be to bow before the duel (and stop when told to), he attacked me AGAIN and let me put another thing on the don't do-list.

I hope the person I'm referring to know what I'm saying and think about it.

I'm just happy this is rare...
