Anyone read it yet/want to discuss it? I just finished it a few minutes ago, and man, it was tough to get through the end. I have to admit it was pretty intense for me.

Anyways, I won't talk about what happened just yet, I'm not sure how many other HP fans are out there and spent a lot of time reading it right away, but I'd like to hear from you!

My thoughts on the snape thing. Remember the argument in the woods between dumbledore and snape? Could dumbledore have been telling snape he had to do the killing? to save malfoy? Thats what i'm thinking happened. Dumbledore knew he was done for, he was willing to die to save the lives of many. And to save the pureness of malfoy, he had someone thats already done bad things, do the killing.
There was never any explanation to that argument so I think we will hear more about it in the next book.

If you guys don't remember what i'm talking about, when harry takes the lucky potion and runs into Slughorn out in the woods, Slughorn said he had heard snape and dumbledore fighting
-Dice

(could be wrong on that argument part, i only sorta remember it cuz they didn't make a big deal out of it, but thats what my GF, and one of our friends think)

Dumbledore was like some kind of Deity in the Harry Potter books in my eyes, he was so wise and powerful, I got the impression he was the most powerful wizard alive, I highly doubt he would misplace trust, there's bound to be something to it all and why he let himself get into such a vulnerable position. Maybe he planned it this way so as Snape could get closer to Voldemort, maybe Dumbledore was doomed from the incident which blackened his hand already, but it seems the other members of the Order of the Phoenix were unaware of the initial point I mentioned, but maybe Dumbledore didn't want to take the risk of telling them... all in all, I want the next book now. :p

damn, I just read 'The Philosopher's Stone' and I loved it.

Hmm.... If I remember right it was called "The Sorcerer's Stone", or was called that in America at least. Don't know if the name is different elsewhere.

No, all over the world it is called The Philosophers Stone, except they changed it in USA, have no idea why

because we americans are not the brightest bunch, and don't know what Philosopher's are. Actually, i think they just realized that a book about Philosophers wouldn't do as well as a book about sorcerer's. Sorcerer's sound more adventerous(sp?)

The book rocked, drove me till the end, and it was tough to tear myself apart from it. As always, it's left me with that feeling of surprise but with a "I should've expected that". I mean, JKR fed us a with Snape's betrayal in the first Chapter (although I thought he was still "Dumbledore's man";). Now, I'm left with exactly the same feeling as the Order of the Pheonix... can't wait till next summer.:P

Edit: Kudos, JKR.

One thought I saw in another forum, which goes along with what Jaina said, was that the drink he took contained part of Voldemort's soul, so he became a Horcrux, meaning he would have to be killed. There was a second where Snape stared at Dumbledore, where perhaps they were communicating, since they were both skilled Legilimen. Dumbledore could have told Snape to kill him in that small amount of time, which would explain why he was pleading, since the book stated that Dumbledore is not afraid of death. This theory doesn't explain the note though, unless perhaps the author (R.A.B.) was mistaken?

On the subject of the pheonix. I heard once, that Gryfindor(i know its spelled wrong, sorry), was supposedly one of those annimorgus(sp?) and his animal was a Pheonix. That would mean, that he could in a sence live forever, as long as when he came close to dieing he went to the phoenix form.
That means that he could come outa left field and help Harry to save the day. Or maybe, Dumbldore, even being good, had a horcrux...anyone else thought of that? He could have had a stroke of evil we never know

*SPOILER*

u all assume Snape is evil now. Its possible that Dumbledore was already dieing (cause of that mangled arm), so he and Snape decided that if the time came it would be better to kill him than to blow Snape's cover.

Of course thats just one POV

aye its possible
