Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion *Spoilers* | |
Alex Dkana - Staff |
Well, this game comes out at the end of the month so i thought i would start a thread for it to see who else is interested in it. For those that do not know, the Elder Scrolls games began back in 1994, and are the creation of Bethseda Softworks. They are Action/RPG's, set in a fictional world of Tamriel, and each game is unique in story, and location, sharing only small things in common plot wise, although they all add to the history of the games. I had not heard of them, until 2002 when they released Elder Scrolls III:Morrowind for the PC, the game was enormous, and gave huge amounts of choice in what the player did, right from the character creation onwards. Needless to say i was impressed. Anyway the game spawned two expansions, and has become hugely popular online among modders, partly due to its unique construction kit released with the game. It has also since been released on the X-Box. The New game is designed for the Next-Gen consoles (360 etc.) and of course is also coming out for the PC, for which the specs are: Recommended 3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor 1 GB System RAM ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card Minimum System Requirements Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit 512MB System RAM 2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor 128MB Direct3D compatible video card and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver; 8x DVD-ROM drive 4.6 GB free hard disk space DirectX 9.0c (included) DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card Keyboard, Mouse **Notes on requirements** -There is currently no option to disable pixel-shading in the game, so if your graphics card has trouble with this you might have some problems. [Thanks to Masta for this] The game is even bigger than Morrowind, literally huge in size and scope, and still contains all the customisation of the previous game (a lot more in fact), and its free roaming nature. The graphics are amazing. Also the Dev team have made the NPC's a lot smarter, using a new Radient AI program, which the producer refered to as a combination of Ultima 7 and The Sims, this results in some nice moments. Unlock Print Screen (PRTSCN) button There is a setting in the INI file: bAllowScreenShot=0 change to: bAllowScreenShot=1 There are two INIs, one in the game folder called "Oblivion_default.ini", this is the one it uses to generate the REAL one.... My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini Edit the first one if you want to default to having screenshots on by default for all users. The settings it uses at runtime are the ones from My Documents folder. After you mod the INI file, you can press PRTSCN button and Oblivion will write a BMP file to your game folder. -To bring up the console press the tilde key (above tab) -Typing TM into the console toggles hiding of all menus (for taking screenshots) Available Factions/Guilds: -Mages Guild [returning] -Fighters Guild [returning] -Theives Guild [returning] -Dark Brotherhood [New](more 'evil' than the honourable Morag tong, shame i liked the MT) -The Blades are back, again as part of the story [returning] -The Arena [new] (lets you fight a variety of NPCs. Even after you have "completed" the Guild there will probably still be fights waiting for you at the Guild. You will also be able to bet on the fights that take place in the Arena.) There are other factions although no others seem playable, they include the Imperial Legion, the Nine Divines (a temple group), The Mythic Dawn (Daedra worshippers), the Warf Rats (think Cammona Tong but smaller perhaps), and the Necromancers. Updated -There are other factions out there you can join, i don't actually know how many, but i recently joined one that was not one of the originals stated. These hidden factions are probably smaller overal than the Mages/Fighters etc. though. Misc info -Werewolves will not be returning initially although you cannot rule out another expansion. -Vampires however are back, and with a new biting animation -Spears, throwing weapons (e.g stars), and crossbows have been removed. -Each of the 9 major cities has a house you can buy and have for your own. You can go around in town and buy different things to decorate your house with, so you have places to put all the stuff you collect. One of the houses that you can purchase is initially haunted. -go Here to find basic info on the skills in ES:O Sources and links: Gamespy preview Gamespy - Trailer Elder Scrolls main site Wikipedia Oblivion entry Waiting for Oblivion.com Electronic Gaming Monthly Preview Detailed Oblivion FAQ Team Diary entry - from this link you can find various detailed entries about combat, magic etc. FAQ link -Gamespot FAQ's -IGN walkthrough Reviews -PCGamer March/April - 93% -Official X-Box magazine March/April - 9.5/10 So anyone else looking forward to this game? Or are the PC requirements or style putting you off? Quote: My endurance numbers are red because its 181/197, did it cap at 181 or something? Anyone know how to make it normal again? I always thought attributes capped at 100? I presume you have tried going to a shrine of the nine devines to see if its attribute damage? If that dosn't fix it, then it is either a bug with the game which i do not know about, or it is a capping thing like you suggest. I am currently enjoying my Dark Elf more than my first playthrough, i hope it lasts, i am actually worried about leveling up which is rediculous after Morrowind, a definite negative point for the game in my books, oh well nothing is perfect eh. Edit: 200 post, wow never thought this thread would go that far! _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? How come you buy weapons? I always thought you would get way better stuff by looting bandits...for free! Anyways, i guess ive played this game a bit too much, since my savegame displays 74 hours gametime now. Also, i have way too much gold (300k) and no idea what to spend it on. Guess its time to buy mehself a nice house! Level 30 now and finished all my sidequests and faction questlines too. Im really looking forward to the main-quest now =x _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! Married to Kain. best things to take are endurance and luck... because endurance means more hp when u lvl up so ull have more hp in a long run w00t! and there are no skills asociated with luck so u can only lvl x1 at max each time. so anywayz asdasdasd qweqwcacazxczxczxc _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. Yeah the levelling system is annoying for me as well, it is actually better to choose the skills your NOT gona use as your major so as you can 'control' your levelling, to maximise the effects of your levelling, for example... Instead of setting blade and heavy armor as main, use mysticism and illusion as mains. Then, go and level your blade and handtohand or another strength based skill so as you use train each for a total of 10 altogether, then do the same for endurance based skills, then do it for a third attribute and the skills it's based on. Once done, level your major skills which you never use so as you can level up and get +5 in strength, +5 in endurance and +5 in whatever other stat you chose. The most efficient way to play, and the most irritating since minors take longer to raise. _______________ Fervent supporter of duelling - leave a message if you would like to battle! Quote: Had more epic showdowns with goblins. Raiden himself came and gave me a talk beforehand and played the mortal kombat theme tune during the whole event, barely escaped with my life. lol Started again here, a common theme seems to be if you level too quickly the enemies will get much tougher too fast. This system seems to be perhaps the most irritating thing about the new game. Anyway my new build is: Dunmer The sign of the Lady +10 endurance, willpower [Magic] Strength Intelligence Major Skills: -Destruction -Restoration -Light Armor -Sneak -Blade -Marksman -Block I will say wether this is much better than my last as i play, currently its very obvious being level 1 is easier than the higher levels in many circumstances. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? I got the quest from the half orc guy in the bloodworks ages ago but still havnt gotten round to doing it, maybe I'll try it next time I come on. Sounds like a good un. Atm I am attempting ridiculous things on horseback..... So far I have jumped off the edge of cloud ruler temple, and the bridge over water outside the imperial city. Well I created a new character as a fighting class and I'm enjoying it even more than my ol' Khajiit sneaker. Nord, only level 2 but I'm a Gladiator in the Arena, and my fame is 15 I think. Lots of money. If you want an interesting quest talk to the gray prince (agnorak, half orc-half human guy) in the bloodworks, but be warned ----> >:F::::: _______________ Free Tibet! illusion is pretty easy to lvl. just get some low energy cost charm spell and cast on npcs. and with my high ( 84 ) willpower my energy regen is good enough to stay invisible all day long. anywayz im trying to lvl destruction and i continue improving my illusion. not for nothing tho... you guys probably know that dead bodies lose all all their stability. paralysis simulates the same effect. paralysis+fireballs = enemies flying around. and yeah that kinda works - tried already with my paralysis staff. as for whole mysticism magic stuff... its not that useless. its just not very useful at low lvls. at high lvls it has uber buffs like reflect or absorb which speak for themselves. sneak attack dmg is dependant on ur weapon btw. hand to hand - 6x , blades etc- 4x , bow - 3x , spells - none (even tho in interviews about stealth and magic systems they said that its very cool to cast a fireball while in sneaking mode. cant understand why its cool now... ). _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. That would work if I had scrolls of chameleon or invisibilty, or any spells for it, however my illusion skill is at 5, so gg there. I could level illusion up I guess and play like that, but I think i'd prefer to be someone who charges in and owns in melee now. _______________ Fervent supporter of duelling - leave a message if you would like to battle!
