Virtue - Jedi Council ![]() |
Activity is waning in some or alot of areas. This depends of course on whereabouts you live, your time zone etc. But generally, people have been saying recently that whenever they come online, the Servers are pretty much empty. So I ask you this: What would you like to see around here that could help beef up activity in the JA? Please be detailed, I don't expect you to have to write essays or anything, but please don't just post saying stuff like "We need more events!" or "We should have some scheduled fun sessions!" Tell us exactly what it is you'd like to see here. Or things that you think would help boost activity on the servers. So... Go! ![]() - Virtue. ![]() _______________ Academy Architect This post was edited by Virtue on Mar 20 2006 01:22pm. |

Quote: Tournaments, although requiring some decent organisation, are an easy and effective method of gaining much needed revival of interest in the game. I do recall, however, a thanksgiving tournament in the past (was it last year?) being cancelled due to the lack of commitment and interest found as it progressed. If I remember correctly last years tournament was cancelled due to controversy regarding exploits being used in matches and leading to competitors having to remove themselves from the tournament. But I do agree with you about them being good for JA activity. I don't think I've ever seen a period with more people on the servers than when there's a tourney going on. So yeah, more competition on the servers = more activity ![]() _______________ Former padawan of RoseRed |

As far as JA activity is concerned though, do you think maybe it's just the game itself possibly fading out? Eesh that's a morbid thought. Some excellent suggestions have been made so far. I especially liked Tido's idea for an easily accessible calendar outlining all future events and occasions in upcoming days/weeks/months. Also agreed with adding extra focus to the alternative gametypes; ctf (basejka pure WITH /kill), instagib, tffa and siege, as well as other enjoyable and somewhat differing methods of play, examples being flying classes and tag team tournaments. Allowing voting on at least one of the servers is an essential in my opinion as those involved in the community are able to enjoy the facets of the game that THEY choose, not those chosen for them. Tournaments, although requiring some decent organisation, are an easy and effective method of gaining much needed revival of interest in the game. I do recall, however, a thanksgiving tournament in the past (was it last year?) being cancelled due to the lack of commitment and interest found as it progressed. This is due mainly to the fact that the game is getting old, but I'll come back to that point. The only way I can see this working is if tournaments are held in various disciplines - guns, tffa, ctf, granted that the interest among the community still exists and that they are willing to see it through to the end. There's nothing worse than creating the hype and excitement for a tournament and later having to cancel it as a result of waning interest. Perhaps they can be held on a smaller scale at regular intervals? I'm sure this has been attempted (and failed) already so not sure on this point, perhaps something to work on. I also liked the idea of specialised training for the various guns ie. snipers, explosives experts, etc, as this is quite useful in siege and guns in general, and could therefore generate interest in both areas. While it is always fun to have 'Nostalgia Weeks' and the rotation of old maps these have, in the past, failed to attract as many of the old players as we would have liked. Nonetheless, the fact that they are a variance from the general monotony of the same map day in and day out is always a plus. The peer support program that someone brought up is always a nice thing to have but I'm not sure that it can work out on a large scale, nor as a means of reviving interest, although I'm sure I read that the latter was not it's aim anyway. Generally when I have problems in my life I talk to either friends or family. To those that I do speak to on the net, it's usually the ones that I trust a great deal that I divulge my life's complications upon. I'm not sure I would recognise randoms on the net as being people that I would go to with my problems unless I knew them at some level of intimacy. Having said this, it is an excellent way of making new friends and forming [sometimes lifelong] relationships, and I'm sure that not everyone in the ja harbours my reservations, nor my paranoia - it's a good idea at a basal level. Now to the main reason I made this post - JK:JA's decline. I think it's about time the JA began looking to become the A. Unless there are other star wars games out there that are as equally enjoyable as jk2 or jk:ja, things like the release of v3 of the academy's map is only delaying the eventual death of jka. Interest in the game is always declining and people are looking for new games to play and a broader based community with high levels of competition. The JA has far outlived its initial purpose: teaching the game to noobs, in fact this function is almost superfluous in such an experienced community. The game has become so old that people are requiring less instruction and more competition. While the jka community as a whole still retains some extremely experienced players such as the DSBR crew, it is a fact that other games' communities on their own dominate ours ten-fold. Their players have a wider array of competition and, thus, a greater ability to learn and develop skills is created. Almost every occasion that I have seen JA players organise 'outings' to CS, CS:S or BF2 servers has always proved fruitful, not to mention the amount of people on WoW and, formerly, SWG (or is that still going strongly?). The main reason a lot of people still come to the ja even while concurrently playing other games is for the friends they have made over the years, not jka. Why not expand our horizons and welcome a fresh batch of members with interests alike in a multitude of games? By limiting ourselves to jka we lose an increasing amount of members to the plague of sheer boredom. By allowing ourselves to delve into other games we lose nothing of our ties to jka (for those who still wish to remain or cannot afford to buy the new games) while expanding our community and making new friends. I know that this last idea will most likely be rebuked due to its subversive nature as well as the huge amount of organisation required, not to mention the jacs' personal preferences, however it is in the best interests of the community to expand its borders (unless JK3 is coming out) and move forward with time. A community is about the people. The JA's servers are empty. I sure wouldn't mind learning to play on REAL FPS's and improving my aim and tactical abilities. We can either die with time or move forward to bigger and better things. The people keep this community alive - let's find more of them. _______________ Brother to Luke Skywalker and (SKX) Dark Blade ![]() Lag Brother to Acey Spadey ![]() Jools is my best friend. ![]() <Henkes> nebody feeling like abusing me with a lightsaber?|+Smilykrazy grabs Gradius, beats the living CRAP out of him, then throws him into a huge vat of ACID This comment was edited by xAnAtOs on Apr 29 2006 02:19pm. |
