As most of you know (or who know who I am), I'm pretty much a silent partner in the JA at this point, but that doesn't mean I don't care. So here's what I'm wondering... in the absence of a new Jedi Knight game (c'mon Lucasarts, hook us up!), what can we do to keep the JA alive and thriving? Do we expand into other games? Do we simply exist the way were are as a "family" and accept that the training part is diminished as the game fade away a bit (let's be honest, it's been over 3 years since JK:JA came out)? Let me know what you think and how we can keep this place alive and keep the awesomeness that's been around for almost 4 years going well into the future.

Personally, the reason why i dislike mods is because they level the gameplay into complete inconsistency. Im pretty sure that mods are a game-enriching tool for people/communities that focus mainly on RP'ing or social interaction. However, for the others who would rather spend their time practicing/dueling, the use of mods might be a more of a game-breaking hinderance.

Regarding CTF, the JAA CTF krew frequently has practice CTF matches which anyone is welcome to join. These practices are sometimes held on Jaktorow (JAA Euro server, server details on JAA forums), due to the fact that most of the people that play are Euros. The JA has a CTF server that is used from time to time if you gather enough folks

Regarding Instagib, the JA CTF server did have the Disruption mod on it, but it was taken off in order to have a normal ctf server. I'm sure one of the JACs could put the mod back on that server every now and then for a week or two.

JA+ is what screwed this game in the first place.

admin mods + server-owning kiddie wannabe dictators = game-killer

Yeah, but it's the people who abuse the MOD, not the MOD itself that are bad news. The servers I play on have solid Rules against laming, racism, etc., the usual stuff that makes it hard to play on a public with no rules whatsoever.

It's just one MOD, though.

Well thinking of great new innovations for the whole site and things would help keep it alive. My only complaint is the in convenient class times. And usually empty servers.

Wheres the secret map?

I also remember aratan and motrec doing ctf and instagib, those were good for a laugh too.

Tbh, we may as well have JKJA 'alternative gaming' days, see what games we all have (like the class that we used to have) and see if any are popular.

OK, I don't know what you think about the JA+MOD, but I have a blast with it.

Having the Jedi Academy map is great, but it's still the same thing that was here 3 years ago for the most part. Maybe having a server that was all about rotation, and perhaps have a Team FF. You could use the classic maps with some sweet custom maps made by members and approved by the Council.

Change is good. This game still draws but it's the community that truly keeps it alive. New and exciting maps, different games, different MODS, all these could spice things up around here.

Why go back to jk2.
Everyone yeah wooo let's play, but after a week it's all back to the same as we are now.

There aren't many that play jk2, and I'm comparing to when jka or jk2 was still fresh and there were a zillion servers and a zillion players counting in everyone not just those that are members of this site.

And we aren't that many here now either. We would end up with empy jk2 servers unless someone organized a time where people would try to get online.

I think everything we can do is continue as we are now, staff still got ideas on events to organise but all in all, I dont find that there is much to more to learn about this game. I hope a game will come that can bring new players, new things to explore. Maybe not a jk4 but something similar that would work aswell.

Well, some things like gametype tactics will still be relatively the same. We could have some TFFAs, CTFs, etc if people are interested...

well i dont really know about having classes per say, due to the fact that there are very few new people to jk2. those who play it are generally people who played it before, tried jka and realized it sucked, and came back. apparently there has been somewhat of a jk2 comeback...seen websites etc, mostly competitive stuff of course.

but anyhow, a more probable idea would to be have maybe a scheduled class time once a week or so for just people to come on the server, duel, hang out, teach, etc. call it the "jk2 dueling club" or some corny name like that.

that might spark interest, and maybe even attract newer people here that play jka.

lol, what is all this talk about no jk2 staff around...

they're around somewhere.."just look harder"
hell, i wasnt much of a jka fan myself.
I was all jk2, until it just went poof(interest wise)

I'm sure there are still those from the jk2 area willing to rekindle the flame that jk2 once held.

For how long..well..thats another thing entirely lol

there was a reason why jk2 went down the way it did, and it wasn't because of jka either.
after a while, people just didnt wanna do basejk anymore...they preferred all these mods etc. Mods change gameplay..and well, sorta change the game experience....isn't quite the same after that.

But if its just training classes you look for, just to experience them that one more time...you may find one of the old jk2 trainers around.

And on that basis, if you had some incentive for your staff, they might get up off of thier arses and actually do something around here. PAID STAFF, hmmmm, tell me they all don't like the sound of that. lol.

We've had offers of sponsorship in the past and turned them down. The reason we left jk2files hosting was because of the ads becoming so annoying (the mini-webcam that can be used for a spy cam advertised with a hot blonde showing cleavage. Appealing image but still annoying.)

And being able to pay staff sounds great but would likely open us up to a bunch of international taxes. Either from the individual being paid or the academy needing to pay taxes for not being non profit.

Technically some of the forums is already devoted to most of the Star Wars media you mention there, threads have been created, articles made, and so forth. However its certainly an area that is open to expansion, the only question is - are enough active members here big enough fans of Star Wars and its 'EU' to be interested in a lot of the material you mention, i am myself, but i know not everyone here is.

I'm curious, what is the staff's opinion on some of the ideas raised here? There has certainly been a few viable ones put forth by now.

There are a lot of things you can do. The Jedi Academy. If you just said that to anyone, they would probably accept whatever you told them this was. So it has been a portal of JK gamers. Prob time for a change.
