The bow... | |
o2b - Student |
What's the deal with bowing nowdays? I remember last time I was here that we bowed before every duel...usually just a "look down" or crouch. I jumped in to a server yesterday and started dueling, bowed, then looked up just in time to catch a saber in the face. The guy lol'd and asked what I was doing, which made me wonder if the bow thing's gone out the window.

I was gone for about a year and its come to this! First its the n00bs (no offense) thinking I`m a n00b and now some are losing the valued respect that, with the amazing duelists, made TJA such a great place, I have a message for those of you who don't show respect. Bad form. You'll have few friends and won't enjoy the academy. Good day. -TheDestroyer |

Quote: I 100% agree with Virty. I miss those days as well. It is hard to desribe just how amazing those times were and as much as you try, the people that were not here during that time can never fully understand that era. There have been many great people since the jk2 era also, but that IMO was prime time here at the JA.

Quote: JP pretty much hit the nail on the head there. I came from the JK1 days, and we used to bow even in that game, heh, as well as being a part of the JK2 haydays here at the JA where everyone actually respected eachother... I miss those days.
As someone who's also been playing since JK1 (and been part of the Academy since the active days of JK2) I can tell you the 'respect' thing is of all times. I haven't properly played JK3 since 2006 but last time I checked people were still very respectful to eachother, and bowing was proper custom. Of course, I don't blame Virt in the slightest for the nostalgic tone - it's hard to be in his position and still keep your spirits up. Just wanted to stick up for the JK3-age. Same here. As others mentioned, don't expect a bow from anyone on a public server, but within the JA, majority of the people bow. _______________ "Do or do not, there is no try" Jedi Master Yoda Dual Saberist |

Allthough bowing is not an offical rule I see at a sign of respect and signalization of being ready to duel.
People that do not bow are either: 1. not aware of this "tradition" on the servers or 2. just don't care. which could be either in a rude or just in a meaningless way. In my opinion it cannot be that hard to bow by crouching for a second. I think everybody should be able to do that. I don't see the problem in bowing to show the opponent the proper respect. Yeah I bow before each duel, if I get someone that doesn't bow I just let them know that bowing before each duel is 1. a sign of respect to your opponent and 2. a way of letting that opponent that you are ready to duel. I always crouch-bow before a duel and so has everybody else I have seen duel recently. |
JP - Academy Pimp |
I still bow before every fight...maybe because i "grew up" in the JK2 days where we valued honor much more than now where exploits are commonly excepted due to a lackluster release of a sequel to a far superior game. Nether the less, the bow is a sign of respect towards your opponent and there are many who barely respect themselves or even there mothers...so forget bout them respecting you. The public servers are much more notorious for this...but i have always found the JA to be a place that still values the honor in the game. _______________ Come on now, every Generation X boy wanted to be Luke Skywalker. normally i just hit crouch for a split second to indicate im ready and then get on with the duel, seems to be what most people do. we're kinda past that 'hey lets be reel honrable jediz!!1' stage and now it's more just to have fun and beat each other to a pulp _______________ Brother to Luke Skywalker and (SKX) Dark Blade Lag Brother to Acey Spadey Jools is my best friend. <Henkes> nebody feeling like abusing me with a lightsaber?|+Smilykrazy grabs Gradius, beats the living CRAP out of him, then throws him into a huge vat of ACID |

95ish% of people in JKA that actually have some dueling experience bow. Even arrogant duelers bow to some extent. If a person wont bow its either because they aren't aware its customary courtesy or they are one of those "I'm in it for the win and only the win" kind of duelers. _______________ "Deos fortioribus adesse." |
