CTF anyone? | |
Xorb - Student |
So, I've been playing JKA here for about a month now but I haven't seen anyone playing CTF on the academy server. I'm guessing most of you played this to death over the last 5 years. I'd really like to give it a try though. You know, a bit of goal oriented fun, team camaraderie, running around with a saber and a flag . . . good times.
If there is anyone out there that is interested in having a game, please post here along with your time zone and maybe even a preferred day/time. Thanks, Xorb BTW, I have accidentally become the winner?!?!?!? _______________ Cleaning out scum and villainy . . . one wretched hive at a time. |

Well, seems like so far we have myself and Kain Sol running back and forth with a Flag. From what is mentioned below, seems like 1vs1 isn't unheard of, but surely there are a few more noobs out there that want to give this a try?!?!?!?
Thanks for the detailed info Elysium! _______________ Cleaning out scum and villainy . . . one wretched hive at a time. |

Quote: Xorb... Basically CTF (eventhought MBII pwns CTF totally in this matter) is a lot of fun... indeed...
Quote: Base D(efence) - A player with the job to keep his teams flag carrier alive. Clearing the base from camping offence players of the other team and the other teams chase D player.
Chase D(efence) - Its the chase's d job to hunt down the enemy flag carrier and return the flag. Offence - The offence player's job is to steal the flag from the enemy's base and get back to your base and score. But It is hard to get 8 players to the server... So you wouldn't fully experience the fun of CTF Each his own . I never really liked MB2 to much, mainly because it wasen't challenging enough for me (thinking wise). I had a couple of good laughs when I played with my cousin for a month, but soon enough I went back to CTF . It isen't that hard to get a game of 4's going concidering each day our server is filled with 14 from the 16 slots. Heck, alot of the times we are having 4's at bS and 4's at SPUG (bS = Europe/SPUG = America). Which means that we have a pug at each server. Even though as a community, we aren't that big. We make up for our lack in numbers with our activety. There are differend forms of the modes we play. We don't always play 4 vs 4. 1vs1 - This basicly a full force/guns FFA. 2vs2 - Normal CTF game where there are two players on each team. On each team there is a chase D and a offence player. During the game people often switch positions in order to keep the other team from scoring. 3vs3- Normal CTF game where there are three players on each team. On each team there are usually a chase D and two offence players. However, this might be changed during game. Like one offence player would play support offence/secondary chase D, etc.. 4vs4 The most common playing mode. Two offence players, one chase D and a base D. 5vs5 A game of five usually exist out of a base D, chase D, three offence players or two offence players and a mid (Depends who your playing against). Its basicly harder for the defence to return/kill the enemy flag carriers, mainly because the camping (hidding near the flagstand in order to GRAB THE FLAG if the enemy chase D returns on your teams flagcarrier). There are some cases of 6's/7's, but these are rare because we prefer to play 4's. This comment was edited by Mister Clutch on Jan 29 2009 03:05pm. |

CTF is by FAR the most enjoyable gametype in this game (The most complicated and hardest to learn aswell). I pretty much played everything. From siege, to dueling, to tffa, etc. So yeah, you can say I experienced pretty much everything this game has to offer.
The PUG Community This skilful community has existed through out the life of JKA, and previous versions of the Jedi Knight series. Due to the amount of skill needed to PUG, the size of the community has stayed relatively small. Although this will make it harder to attract new players, it does mean you get the benefits of a small community (social interaction etc). We have a resident custom map and weapon mod creator called Tritoch. You can visit his website section here. Please note that we play CTF with full force with guns. Some may think thats "stupid" for a Jedi game, but acually with the force powers avaliable (plus strafing) JKA PUG is totally unique. _____________________________________________ What makes CTF so great is the fast paced gametype. Its really tactical and you need to ACTUALLY think when playing it. The moment you do something wrong it can mean the end of the PUG. There are three positions in CTF (basic). Base D(efence) - A player with the job to keep his teams flag carrier alive. Clearing the base from camping offence players of the other team and the other teams chase D player. Chase D(efence) - Its the chase's d job to hunt down the enemy flag carrier and return the flag. Offence - The offence player's job is to steal the flag from the enemy's base and get back to your base and score. Masta is right though. CTF is like super serious all the time. Mainly because PUGGING is the last and only form of competition which remains. As a community we are known to be newbie unfriendly. Well, not all of us are like that. However, the majority is. We play the game for ages now and pretty much all players have a decent skill level. And since its a team game, if you have one weak link in the team (aka the new guy), your pretty much done for and lost the pug. We have like 25-30 ish players left who actively play on a daily base (Euro and US side). The community is pretty small, but we are REALLY active. So, if your still intrested I can hook u up with the required files/server information. Some of the players who play there, come from here. Like myself, fullmetal, ramzes, mythols, aiden d'kana aka septimo, wolfwood aka rebel, etc. And to confirm it, FullMetal is the only one in this game who is ABLE to teach you how to play CTF probaly. He taught a new batch of players how to play CTF 1.5 year ago and now most of those players are recognized as good player. So yeah, FM is the man to go to. |

Try it out - surely there's some more-or-less active pugs out there.
As for the JA, not a lot of people are interested in CTF over here (anymore), so i'm not sure how much success you'll have in getting people to play with you. _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! Masta - Jedi Council |
CTF is so "serious" because there's only very few people left to play it, and these people tend to already be quite proficient at it, so even though you may be safe from absolute and complete domination in saber-related gametypes by just playing at the JA, you'll most likely get kicked from CTF pugs simply for not knowing what "O" and "D" stands for.
On the other hand, if you're looking for team camaraderie and goal-oriented gametypes - TFFA is a very active branch of JKA, and even has a couple of classes dedicated to it at the JA. PS: UN guy, your pacifist hippy nature will serve us well if my Comrades decide to liberate western nations from cruel and inhumane capitalist exploitation.
