Potential Yellow Stance Only Tournament | |
Cuthalion - Padawan |
Sorry this has taken so long, I have been quite busy of late, but this is not an Official post, merely an enquiry. Who would be interest in a yellow stance only tournament; I have had several conversations with both red and yellow users. Being as the Academy predominantly teaches Yellow stance it would seem that a lot more people are more confident using the stance are therefore comfortable. Just as a matter or interest would anyone be interested in taking part? All members of the JA are welcome ranked or otherwise, as well as those in the Aurochs and a post will appear on their site in due course. If there is enough interest a post will go up for the official sign up relatively soon after. I know it seems fairly repetitive but I want as much notice and time for people to check the forums as possible as the last Red tournament people didn’t realise it was on until it was too late.
Anyway let me know. Cuth _______________ <MaherSenatu> guh... you are just... I'll keep sure that your kind of people will never be knights... <MaherSenatu> That's my mission... Master to Kain Sol |

Another Tourney... oh boy Cuthalion is busy... ?
Personally; Well due to my interests are totally at somewhere else in JKAbase than at competitive playing. This is why I'm not going to practice in any tournaments. Well I never say never, if It isn't a principle. But for this tournament, It is kind of pointless to me, because I would pwn you all, even when I'm loosing <333 Community Pointview: Sure, Activity *thumbs up* and go for it... But please don't push yourself over the edges, Cuth, Tourneys are rather heavy to arrange on time... But yeah I bow once again for your awesomeness if you have energy to arrange this tournament... _______________ Still here | My Lightsaber This comment was edited by Maher on Mar 17 2009 02:09pm. |

oh masta, i just mean it might be more fun for the new player to fight vs pure yellow instead of being out of their element fighting let say...all the other stances in jka.
presumably, fighting in and vs. a stance that they're familiar with will give the average academy player a better chance to put forth more of a competitive fight (maybe landing a swing or two). though i must go on record to say a pure anything fight is, imo, ridiculous and impractical. that's why i made my earlier remarks about how Cuth's stance only tourneys are novelties. But I've come around on the idea! it's no secret yellow is the preferred stance among the academy players and having a pure yellow tourney would in theory lead to more entrants or at least a better contested tournament. i don't think the outcome will be any different, but at least it's not set in stone like the last one, rofl (JAA fighting each other all the damn time). i'm curious as to how this one will end up, provided that all you yellow specialists join. Yeah. i'm calling you guys/girls out. Virtue and his purple cyan family. Jaina and the D'kanas. And all you other dudes i can't name off the top of my head. All of y'all are the same anyway... If yellow v. yellow was what made the game fun for you, great! come back and enter this thing. you can keep ur stance change button on the l key. edit: i will only enter if tallepyon does. If that is your goal, why not make a tournament where anything goes? (as Sauce suggested) if anything goes, the noobies would not stand a chance and would be deterred from joining. if only pure yellow was allowed they'll be more inclined to join because they'll supposedly not get beaten as badly. I really don't think this to be very likely. It presupposes that these kind of people only really play to win, and that they'd be disinclined to participate in events they wouldn't stand a chance of winning. Not winning tournaments would naturally follow from being less experienced though, so the people (in addition) would have to think of themselves as "not less experienced" in order to consider themselves capable of winning a tournament. Í mean, you can hardly win a tournament as a less experienced player unless the tournament is filled with less experienced players, so it presupposes that these people believe there are no (or few) experienced yellow stancers in the JA that will beat them up badly, which seems to be quite a stretch considering how prevalent yellow stance is in the JA. I understand the whole idea of being in the comfort zone, but there is already quite a lot of comfort involved in just merely playing with yellow (not necessarily against it), and i can hardly imagine any player in the JA being reluctant to sign up for a tournament solely because there are no restrictions placed on the sabers/stances; although i can very well imagine players not signing up for a tournament solely because there -are- restrictions to just merely -one- saber/stance - in this case, myself for example. Saz too maybe? Probably others as well. If Cuth's goal is to include as many people as possible (rather than just provide yellow stancers with comfort), then i'm not sure why he wouldn't want to make a normal tournament. _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! I just want to try and involve as many people as I possibly can.
Edit: Yeh, I was thinking about that aswell, some Yellow duels can last for ages, waiting for the right time to counter etc etc. So on that note, the amount of duels would be cut, in the hope to prevent a prolonged series of excessively long duels. Also, pretty much the same rules of the Red Tournament will apply. _______________ <MaherSenatu> guh... you are just... i guess when u put it that way, it makes more sense. edit: though you might want to change the format of the fights to have less duels than last time; having 30 min tourney rounds is pretty draining and time consuming. having a shorter format would promote better concentration and level of play. Definately mate, I would really like to see more in depth Red classes. I believe they could really benefit us all, and improve the standard of play throughout the academy in general. But as an experienced player I am sure you can recognise that the more experience players use Red much better than the beginners and lesser skilled players and for that reason even if it is behind some sort of illusionary veil having a Yellow only tournament could effective provide a much more level playing field for the Academy students in general. Also 2 v 2 is a very good shout, but it would have to be carefully planned and well publicised so everyone would know a while in advance. The bottom line is to try and keep activity consistant. _______________ <MaherSenatu> guh... you are just... This sounds fun to do, plus I usually like using the medium stance, since its sort of balance and easy to use, fast is not that great to me since it pretty much works if your opponent is defenseless and I only use strong stance during dark rage since it would pick up some speed for the stance's nice range and power. _______________ -"Now you see the true Dark Lord of the Sith!" -Darth Revan - To see my character when playing online, download the Kotor pack from here (I only use the darth revan model, and also I think it's the best looking one out there from my point of view, and this is not my work just to let you know): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2C9AQ0YS - To see the lightsaber I use, download the kotor saber pack, I don't know a link since filefront is closing down, so just get it there (I use the Revan Lightsaber Dark Ver.) |

Clearly the solution is more focus on red within the academy to expand said comfort zone! Surely common-run tournaments every few weeks would encourage this or perhaps even aid as a medium for it? Okie doke. But from experience allowing all the stances results in the more experienced players using red a pwning everyone. Atleast with Yellow, even if the same people end up in the finals, it gives people the advantage of using a stance which they would normally consider thier "comfort zone". It was only an idea. I think it was mentioned in your previous tournament thread, but there's nothing that sets the aurochs members apart from the other members of the academy within it. All they do is represent thejediacademy.net ingame, outside of it's servers in a competitive environment. Basically we're subtle pimps o' the galaxy, cruising where we choose and dispensing tactical play that will outwit any hax or exploit etc.
More on topic however, this kind of tournament probably will pull a lot, though I can see it being a bit of a spamfest admittedly, due to the fast swing speed of yellow. But hey, part of the fun I suppose, I'd say it's something different but for the academy to do something yellow exclusive, it really isn't. Still, will probably be fun all the same, I'd take part _______________ Fervent supporter of duelling - leave a message if you would like to battle! Married to Masta.
