I personally will forget this site if it switches games. This Is the ACADEMY, not some fan sight for a never-before-heard-of midevil rpg game. Why do we have to give JA up? Just because a new game comes up, you don't have to dump the old ones. I've gotten atleast five or six people started on the game, and they enjoy it, so why do games need to be THIS YEAR TOP IF THE LINE games? My policy is, if it it's fun, it flys. _______________ Brother to Quill You don't understand. I'm not locked in here with you, YOUR LOCKED IN HERE WITH ME! |

Hello all, I logged in for the first time in a year or so to see if if this place was doing anything to adapt at all for the changing Star Wars game market
I have a lot of fond memories playing on the academy servers for JK2 and 3 but I think that came more from the great community spirit that this place has rather than the game itself (let's face it, apart from a competitive multiplayer mode JK3 was pretty pants and you can see why they didn't make another one.) I'm no authority but I think there's two choices really, move with the times and embrace SW:TOR (I was sceptical at first but now I think it looks great) and attempt to kickstart the community. It has potential for guilds, PvP, teamplay, tutoring, and everything great about Star Wars that will make the online gameplay just as memorable as JK2/3 was in its heyday. That wouldn't happen overnight but we'd have an unlimited base of new players and potential for expansion. I don't know if it'd even work or not as the academy became popular in its peak through word of mouth rather than heavy promotion, so turning a stagnating community into a thriving one might be an all too tricky task The other choice is just to play the older saber-combat based games, which I'm sure the purist academy members would want but will drive the academy nowhere. It'd be sad to see what was a great community die out unnecessarily _______________ Former padawan of RoseRed This comment was edited by Eica on Jul 11 2011 06:30pm. |

One day, I realized one thing about TJA?
Eventhought I have always sound like "a high priest of JA "and "some kind of preacher for greater good and better JA"... etc I have begun to understand what the freaking mecca this really is to somebody? ok, I'm guilty for I'm thinking that there are some pretty legendary guys at here... But in sense of "legend" word, I have only meant they are great personalities who have once built up foundation for a nice place.... and I respect them for that... What I'm trying to say is "Get Over It!", I don't really care if somebody's TJA spirit is higher than mine or I don't care who's ID is lower than mine... Which is offical or which is unoffical! Clan, family, community, groupers, inviduals, higher purpose for the sake of JKA and yadla yadla, different mod, different game... all the same... It is freaking same, so get over it! I got my fun and I'm still getting it... But in different ways with same and different guys... Too many beers, drunken knight has spoken... *passes out* - Maher Senatu _______________ Still here | My Lightsaber |

Meh, I love this place, really.. I do. But frankly and I hasten to add sadly, I doubt many of these ideas will come to fruition. I've shouted and screamed for revivals many times in the past, this place would not be the same if it adopted another game. Fact.
I've spoken to ranked members who are (or were, been a while since I've been on, but atm RL is SUPER busy) active. There will always be the hard core gamers, who made this community what it is, sadly I can't say i'm one of them. I don't have the patience to stick with it, but i'm just gonna sit tight until TOR comes out and then return (even started the damage limitation). Sorry... I'm off on several tangents here, the bottom line is, the people who are active in this community make it what it is, and only going out there and doing something about it will make a chance, do ask for people views, just get on with it, if they like it people will pop in, besides it's better than this idle forum talk. That's unfortunately the way it is, trust! _______________ <MaherSenatu> guh... you are just... I'll keep sure that your kind of people will never be knights... <MaherSenatu> That's my mission... Hi guys,
I know I haven't been around for years (circa 2005) but here are my thoughts. For me TJA has always been about community. I'm grateful for all the fantastic people it gave me a chance to meet. I thought and still think that this place is special. There aren't that many places valuing respect in real life, let alone online. This is one of the reasons why I would love to see the JA prosper. The trouble is that commmunities need to evolve to survive. I believe that inaction is the enemy of a successful community and that this is particularly true in an online gaming context where competition thrives. This is why I'm very happy to see that people are trying to get this community moving. I believe that maybe we should just try something even if it doesn't make everyone happy and see what happens. If the experiment doesn't work we can they try something different. My 2 cents _______________ In light of day, nor dark of night, no evil shall escape our sight. Proud member of the D'Kana family |

Quote: The MP Jedi Knight series has lasted almost a decade. Jk2 was release in 2002, and of course Jk3 in September 2003. After 9 years of this, people still play the game.
Arguing about active players, and claiming the game is dead, just doesn't defend the point that its 9 years and people still play the game. Is counterstrike dead? No... People will continue to play it for a long time, if not 'forever'. That being said, we need to establish/finish this academy, as a permanent training community/source of information. One that is ready to take on noobs and give them the information they need to learn and be able to play this game with the active people that do play. We need better detailed and documented information on game styles and techniques, and videos for EVERYTHING. Examples of moves, descriptions, duelling techniques/complete stance examples in duels, etc, etc, etc. Then, regardless of how many people were on the server last night, someone who is new to the game, can find this site and get information and questions answered. Just my take on it. I think there is more than enough active members to accomplish this, and I think we have a duty to be the holocron for the jedi knight series, to all future generations. Especially since it 'currently' doesnt seem that a jk4 will be made, that means jk2/jk3 are the only games that you can play, and play online with other humans, that involves saber duelling. Yes there are neat mods that people are working on, but this game has been in production for 7,8 and 9 years. I think its safe to say this methodology is pretty well established. Lets say we finish building the academy first, before we abandon it and go with a different game? ... Anyone wanna help? "Almost a decade" you say? How dare you forget Dark Forces 2, that vintage masterpiece of 1997! I am offended, and must now challenge you to a duel. K K K K K K K what the...I'm pressing K; nothing's happening. Oh riiiiiight, this is the forum. Nevermind. In all seriousness though, I guess the better question would be "do people here want to do anything besides JK games". Or is TJA destined to become a historical archive in an abandoned temple on a long-forgotten world? Much of it rides on the goals of the people who keep the site and servers running. Leadership: I'm talking to you here! You can only take so many polls, ask so many questions, get so many opinions. Ultimately the choice is yours - and you'll never make everyone happy. At some point you have to draw a line and say "this is it, here's where we're going...you can come along for the ride or get left behind". If there IS interest in including other content, then there are a lot of ways to keep this place relevant while still supporting the JK series. In fact you could argue that if you can expand the userbase with the inclusion of something new (like TOR) or maybe by adding information on other Star Wars games from the past, you might get more people to look into the JK series ("Buy It Here" links to the Steam store page wouldn't be a bad idea). _______________ http://steamcommunity.com/id/citizen059 |

I say you stick with whatever the most current multiplayer Star Wars game is. With the upcoming release of TOR that's probably going to be it.
The training aspect of the academy is long since dead. In fact, the game itself is on life support in terms of active playerbase and it won't be improving anytime soon. The fact that people post (or in my case, mostly lurk) here at all is because of the community aspect, not because of a training system or ranking system. And it's a community built around a star wars game series that won't be coming back - so if you really want to keep that community alive, you move on to the next star wars game. Because, really...if you want to focus on M&B, or some other game, there are other existing communities for those where people will wind up going to. Though it's been a long time since I've truly been active here, I can say with 100% certainty that if there's a new SW game that I wind up playing (be it TOR or any other), this is the first place I'd come to in search of people to run with. This IS the Star Wars gaming community, to me. _______________ http://steamcommunity.com/id/citizen059 |

Because thats the mentality of todays gamers, people that play COD religiously badmouth Bad Company and refuse to see why its a good game, Xbox fanboys shout at PS3 fanboys etc... the fact is people dont like change so to speak. That's why they say stuff sucks before trying it. I usually say it doesn't appeal to me before i try it and then get a proper opinion when i have tested it.
