i wanted to call this the "official" JA logo contest, but i think i should get a JAC blessing first  (edit: yea, got DJ's blessing!)anyway, we now have a Logo Contest folder on our msn groups collection. so get out your copy of illustrator, photoshop, corel draw, ms paint, or whateva you got, and give it a rip.  also if anyone wants to submit something but is too lazy to sign up for the ja photo collection group then just e-mail it to me and i'll post it for you. To sweeten the deal a little.. the winner of this gets one free item ordered form our new store with YOUR logo on it. This can be a shirt, mug, thong, lunchbox, or whatever. here are some ground rules approved by DJ_Sith himself: 1. DO NOT use any copyrighted material. this means, no in-game screens of any Jedi Knight stuff. It would be ideal that whatever you create is all your own stuff. Also, be aware of any copyright issues on fonts you may have downloaded or acquired. Most font makers will let you use them however you like, they just like to know when they get used on something that's getting produced. DJ cannot stress how much he doesn't want you to use copyrighted stuff, so DON'T DO IT! 2. Make sure the idea (logo/text etc.) is reproducible at a high resolution for printing. (I.e. don't make a small image that looks good on the screen but will get all blurry and crap when blown up to a decent size and put on a T-shirt.) The ideal final format will be EPS, PDF, or some vector graphic format for ease of scaling. 3. The logo will go on a white (or light colored) background primarily, check the CafePress site for a full list of products. http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/products/viewall.aspx (Ideally the logo should have NO background to it, but for preview purposes, please put it on top of white.) 4. The idea behind the logo is that it be in line with a corporate identity. I.e. meaning this logo can stand alone or have supporting text. It should look good when reproduced at a variety of sizes, from a bumper sticker to a wall poster. 5. The JAC's would like to see a variety of quality ideas, so treat this initial go around as brainstorming session. DJ and the JAC's have very high standards that they'd like to see upheld by representing the JA with a design that can stand next to the classic logos of our time (the NFL, yes the national football league, is actually a good place to look at how logos today can become powerful iconic statements. For example, compare the new Patriots logo to the old one. http://www.logoserver.com/NFL.html Newer logos such as the Texans, Falcons, Titans, and Patriots show how a logo can be relatively simple, yet make a bold statement.) Ideas will be refined and developed by anyone that wishes. The final decision does lie in the hand of the JAC's. i love the logo, but i don't like how it says "Community | Teaching | Dueling". i'm all for community and teaching, but some of us do more than dueling. other than that, it's superb. |

actually i didn't use the "white rabbit" font that is used on the titlebar of the site here (so yell at me, not DJ ). DOH! so i'll work up a new one using the font that matches the current JA font. the images are just abstractions that kind of make a J and an A. with the bottom tag line i made it www.theJediAcademy.net to reinforce the J and the A theme. but i do agree, in general i prefer domain names all lower case. but sometimes the caps can make it more readable. thanks for the feedback Halendor, oh and be nice to Jedi Prodizzle, he's already explained himself  _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! OK, here goes my constructive critisism *cough* Jeid_Prodigy *cough*  Good: - abstract; I love abstract - slogan; community, knowledge, proficiency - sounds good Bad: - font; I think the font is a bit boring (sorry DJ) - url; I personally like www.thejediacademy.net better than www.TheJediAcademy.net And a *really* stupid question (or at least I think it is): what are those images? |

well i finally put something up that i feel like has potential. let me know what you think. (color scheme can be changed no problem, i just went with something simple and subtle for now.) please feel free to say what you really do and don't like, as that way i can gauge what direction it needs to go in. i.e. "it's way to angular and abstract", "the font is too plain", etc. but if you feel like you can't articulate exactly why you do or do not like it, i'll settle for "it sux" or "it rox" thanks in advance the image of an idea _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! can someone permie the "DJ's ground rules" for me please? ty. heya Billy, the folder at the JA photo collection is there for all process ideas that people would like to submit. as we get closer on final results, i see them being paired down to sort of a final group that will be selected from. DJ said he'd like to see a lot of quality entries, so here's looking to some great stuff! and i don't see why we couldn't have more than one to choose from to slap on products i'll post some more stuff here in a bit that might help people out. i have a file that's "The Jedi Academy" in the font that DJ used here on the site in the titlebar. _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! |

WHOA!!! I just saw this! All the logos I've seen look really nice, though the Flash one that Moby made won't work on a T-shirt or a coffee mug without a whole lot of LSD.( )Seriously though, I was just wondering a few things about the actual contest: -Who will the judge be? The Council? Or would we just have every JA member just give one vote for the one they like? Unless we submit more than one logo and then we just pick and choose when we order them. -Should we put the peoples' final submissions in the one folder at the Photo Collection? I think it would make it easier to browse through them all if they were all in one place. Anyway, all the logos look really cool so far. i guess, i'm looking for something that's a little more iconic. some graphic symbol that represents all the characteristics of the JA, the community, the learning, the dueling, the fun, etc. (i guess personally, i don't think a lightsaber covers the range of what we're really about, but maybe i'm overreaching ) then that symbol can be combine with whatever text you like "The Jedi Academy" or "www.TheJediAcdemy.com" or any other slogan that's apropriate. these pages have some samples that are a bit closer to what i'm talking about, nothing amazing here though, i got tired of searching on google for good examples http://www.logobob.com/ http://www.logosharx.com/logo-design-samples/samples.htm _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! |
