Respect here at the academy seems to be slipping. I have gone through the forums, profile hopping, to the IRC channel, and to play on the servers, and the more i read/IRC/play/chat-Ingame the more disgusted I get at the lack of respect shown by most. I apologize to thoes who have tremendous respect for others for generalizing this post but this issue has grown over the past few months and I think it really needs to be addressed I am not reporting anyone because there has been minimal disrespect geared towards me and I do not feel it is my place, but that doesnt mean Im okay with it and it most certainly does not mean I will stand for it. Thoes who are disrespectful to others: You know who you are and wether you were disrespectful to someone out of anger, frustration, stress, or because your mean, It doesnt give you the right to do it. Disrespect can be as simple as ignoring someone true, but the disrespect that I have seen is far worse and that is why i decided to write this. I have seen insults, flamming, pointless arguing and bickering, the whole works. Come on people grow up it takes two to argue certaintly one of you can be big enough and shrug it off why continue? Disrespect spreads like a virus the more you disrespect someone the more you will end up getting disrespected. Its sad but true, disrespect often fuels retaliation/revenge/hostility. If your disrespectful to someone they will want to be disrespectful back, and you will have an argument on your hands. Nobody likes to see that adn when they do it often makes them think less of the two parties involved in the argument (unless of course the argument was unavoidale/perfectly reasonable). Retaliation is just as bad and is frowned upon just as much as the initial act of disrespect. If you have been disrespected don't go seeking revenge, notify a JAK+ or send an email to the council at fixtheja@thejediacademy.net . They are there to help make sure your experience here is as pleasant as possible. Nobody is forcing you to like every single person you come across but You do have to respect their right to be here peacfuly. if you have a problem with someone then ignore/avoid them but dont start trouble. Heck if you feel you have to respond in some way then do this: type somethink kind to them in the chat/game/profile, It pisses them off but will eventualy wear them down and who knows you might make a friend out of the situation. Also respect other people's wishes. If you are being told you are doing something obnoxious/annoying in IRC/theGame/A post ont the forums, then have the decency to stop it. Hopefully you be told in such an outright manner as "Your being obnoxious quit it" but if you are DON'T RESPOND NEGATIVELY stop the act, and when you get the chance tell a JAK+ the situation. I have one last form of disrespect to discuss. THIS FORM IS BY FAR THE WORST I HAVE SEEN!!! NEVER EVER take a personal attack at someone. NO MATTER WHAT THEY DID FIRST. You don't know what it's like to be that person. You have no idea what goes on in their head or their motives for doing what they do. Never make assumptions, you don't know what rough times/traumas they've faced. Even if they tell you, you can never assume you know the full story. Disrespect makes everyone around you uncomfortable and less interested in being your friend. So do yourself a favor don't disrespect people. If your angry/frustrated/stressed out then distance your self from the JA until youve cleared your head. Go on a public server under an alias and lame till your hearts content, but don't disrespect people here, youll only get yourself in trouble. And if you disrespect people because you just truly are a mean person inside, then leave, your not welcome here, this is a community that prides itself on the peaceful atmosphere it creates and IT WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY ONE INDIVIDUAL TRYING TO RUIN THIS ATMOSPHERE. I have bumped a really old thread dealing with the lockdown to compliment this post. I meant for people to see that thread and remember we have rules here for a reason and breaking the rules has consequences. Instead of bickering/arguing/insulting/attacking people here, try to make friends with them, I think its much easier to make friends here than it is to make enemies. I hope you will take this thread seriously and change your attitudes. I think we all could use a change even myself. No one person is perfect nor does the ja call for perfection, it merely calls for respect. ok Anakin what you earlier talked about respect and you joining the army at the age of 14 is good, but I believe you would've learned patience as well.. you get quite easily agitated if you're now mad to Squib about this one single post he made.. looks more like you have something against him from the beginning, or just a REALLY bad day.. I would be like you on a bad day, but I'm not supersticious about people, and if you're like me and don't have supersticions about other people, I can't see why you got mad.. If you call the comments of Squib pissing you off, you are even worse than myself, and I consider that I'm very hasty and get angry easily! but oh well.. people are different, just listen to some good music n' stuff.. atleast it helped me to chill for a sec before I surely would've been kicked out of the JA.. You don't want that to happen to you, do ya? Now see, personally, I'm a bit torn on the whole subject. On the one hand, I realize that the Jedi Academy is as much about camaraderie and fun as it is about education. On the other hand, I think that there are places where you can just goof off (forums/profiles, IRC, etc). When I first started here, the general atmosphere was much more strict - not because of any particular rules laid down, but rather the students saw the Jedi Academy as just that: An Academy. They, thus, felt that a certain level of maturity and serious behaviour was warranted. As an example, duels in the Matrix (back in Jedi Outcast) were very linear. One person would stay up until they lost, then the next two in line would move in and that was the accepted way of doing things. It was very organized. Now it seems that it's whoever runs in fastest gets the duel. Now, granted, I do this myself - but don't call me hypocritical. Rather, I'm simply adjusting with the times. As my Master taught me, adjustment is the key aspect to this game. Still, I feel a certain longing for those days when everything was taken a bit more seriously and there was more emphasis on learning. Classes were often filled and people on the servers were always: • Practicing their dueling • Discussing tactics with others • Learning from their Masters With the occasional GUN FFAs and whatnot (might I add that the emphasis towards guns and non-NF-dueling has increased quite a good deal in our servers compared to a year-and-a-half ago, which I find laudable). Everything was still geared towards learning - and generally the attitude in classes was sober (except Mike) and attentive. Now, maybe these are just the ramblings of an old(er) fogie at a "younger generation" of Jedi, but personally I feel, and have always felt, that there is a time and a place for silliness, and while the time may vary for many of us, I don't believe the place is in class or on our FFA servers (servers which, might I add as a final point, are there for training.) _______________ © |

I don't think Anakin would rocket a room full of duellers. I think he means the sorta stuff friends do like randomly lame each other every now and then just for the plain humour of it. Personally i think some bloke coming along and blowing me sky high when im doing nothing else is pretty amusing, and i'd laugh at it, rather than shout about laming and all that. But if I was busy with something it would irritate me, but if people can see your busy they wouldn't so that sort of thing anyway. I can see how this on a huge scale wouldn't have a great effect, but every now and then it's just a bit of fun. _______________ Fervent supporter of duelling - leave a message if you would like to battle! I Couldn't agree more to HW! Yeah it is 'just' a game, but we are real people with real feelings. I try to treat people in here the same way I do with people I meet, or have already met in RL. Lets keep is civil. Shall we? Now then. This is just a game. Very true. But real people play that game. And as such a certian level of respect is required. If we didn't respect the rules and each other there would be no point to having the JA. It would all just end up as another mess where people would be unhappy to hang out. The JA may just be based around a game, but seeing as it has been around for 2 years just shows that it is to be respected. Ataris, Respect is one of the important things my parents taught me. And i Do know what and when respect must be put into active. I was 14, when i joined the Army, so yeah I know that is. If no one taught other guys what respect is and when do they must have respect by the others, then i don't know who can teach them, in fact it will be useless to have a talk with him about respect. _______________ I killed them. This is true, but I believe this thread is about the whole system, the whole community, not just the game.. Sure the game is a "cornerstone" of this community, and therefor it should also co-operate with the other "cornerstones" so the whole community doesn't fall.. The lack of respect on the server results in lack of respect in the whole community.. I'm one amongst those who get little respect by some members, dunno if I'm that hated amongst them, but I see no other reason.. I'm also amongst those temperful characters of the JA so I get quite easily provoked to resolve in ugly words and bad comments to other. Usually this doesn't happen without a reason.. I hope this post makes every people think a little more about how he/she acts on the servers, on IRC, and other parts of this community.. It sure made me think a whole lot more about my own acts and I'll try to be a better JA-er in the future.. I hope other members also try to make this a better place.. Repect IS important, yes. But poeple, sometimes, take this game too serious, it's just a game anyways, and we are here to have fun? that is why we bought the game and play it right? Don't make things like this too important as this is your RL. We all have a RL and thats more important than anything else. Anything else, we just need a bit of respect and selfsense and a bit of grown up mind, and everything will do just fine. _______________ I killed them. I killed them all. This is entirely true and alot of this over sensitivity leads to the acts of disrespect mentioned on my post but by the same token others should recognize when a person is overly sensitive and respect that fact by not joking in such a manner that they can take offense to it. If you feel the need to joke with an overly sensitive person then you should stick with Knock Knock jokes or with cute harmless jokes that nobody can find offensive its okay to joke with them improperly once because u didnt know that they were over sensitive but once its clear, you should not continue to joke with them as they WILL take offense and their reaction will not be a good one. Along these lines, imho, people have recently been getting pissed over WAY too basic stuff - jokes, teasings, etc, and people get pissed off? What the heck? It can't even be because people don't get sarcasm, 'cause apparently, not even the "" is sacred anymore.. |

You showed me i made a difference to at least one person and thats all i tried to accomplish with this. It makes me smile to see one person had the reaction i intended and that is to make people more aware of their actions regardless of how they act. The reason: The more aware we are the less likely we are to disrespect someone. Even thoes who have never disrespected someone can one day slip up by accident out of frustration if they are not aware of their actions. Once aware of their actions and as long as thought is behind each action we are less likely to see this kind of conduct.
