Hux and I have been going over the game servers. We've already shut down JK2 classes since it was using too much RAM (~100M). Hux's server runs much more than our game servers, and I don't want the rest of his work to suffer because of our games. Each game server uses between 70 and 100M of RAM. The system is using it's swap file, which is making things go nutty slow (and can affect ping times). We have 2 options: either not run as many servers, or slim down our current servers. I'd like to remove a majority of the custom skins we're using. Like all of them. I know that'll piss a few of you off, but I think it may be necessary to preserve system integrity. Before I do this I'd like your opinions on the matter. Well what say you? _______________ My car is made of Nerf. |

On a side note to this, I would like people to please stop coming up to me and asking me to upload stuff to the Servers for you. I don't care if they are Lightsaber Hilts, Models, Skins or Maps. I've got too much on my plate right now to be worrying about petty stuff like a Students wanting a "Dragonball Z" or whatever the hell it is skin on the Servers. I would hate to see a bunch of custom human models running around, they're SOOOOO boring. Keep the skins, get rid of some unused maps. I like the idea of just one JK2 server. Try those, if we still have problems, then I we can talk skins. This comment was edited by manta on Aug 22 2004 08:44pm. |

I think there is very little need for JK2 servers anymore (unfortunately). Why not cut the JK2 servers down to 1 (that can be used for everything). That would save a bunch. _______________ Website |

I vote to remove all the excess junk/skins/maps that don't get used. I also have a question: I know the server needs the map so it can run it (duh ) but does it have to have a skin for a player to use it? Like, even if the obi-wan skin was removed, could a player still wear that skin, and other players with the skin still see it? _______________ A wizard did it. |

Well that is a real shame because so far I have always used the Obi-Wan skin (well, ever since it was uploaded that is). If I had to choose between Skins or Maps I would say remove all the custom maps like Ragnos and stuff. They take up a lot of space so I guess maps would be my opinion Edit: Well... Or just drop all the JKA servers!!! Nah j/k... Well even though I don't play on the servers anymore, if things didn't change a lot, not many of the extra skins are used. For example, we have 5 Boba Fett (or Jango Fett) skins, 7 skins of that Jedi Master with a head with a tail () and so on... 1 skin for each character should be enough. If things get worse, just delete (you and Hux) the skins you don't like w/o asking. They're your servers anyway  _______________ Your friends of today, are your enemies of tomorrow. |

Maybe cut 2/3 of the skins and let the students pick what 1/3 remains. I feel that this fraction is pretty close to the number of skins that actually get used. And I don't know if the jk2 instagib server is still up, but that should probably go if it is. |

Also, take away the maps the nobody uses, like v4, beta 2, Ragnos, and the jk2 ffa map pack (never seen the servers using any of those). You can always add them and restart the server if there is a need for them. But the camo-jedi skins rock! Please, please, PLEASE leave those. Other than that, we should be alright.
