welcome to week 2 of the Basic Sabering Skills for TFFA class last week we went over strafing, aiming, and aerials. if there are any questions or problems concerning what we taught last week, please speak up now! ok, this week we'll be going over some of the more advanced red stance techniques! the techniques we'll be showing today will give you a more varied repertoire of moves, allowing you to switch things up and maybe get a leg up on your opponent. the first technique is the delayed combo swing. i hope you all know how to combo in red stance! if you can't, well not really my problem. anyway, combo delay swings are just red stance combo swings broken down into individual swings. so instead of 3 swings coming one right after the other /show normal 3 swing combo , there's a longer pause with combo delayed swings /show combo in delayed form however, that pause is a tad shorter than the pause between starting a whole new undelayed swing. this is the timing of undelayed swings. /show 3 separate swing this is the timing of delayed swings /show 3 delayed swings alright, delayed combo swings are good for switching up ur timing because if all we did were combos and single undelayed swings, the timing can be easily grasped by opponents. and that's not a good thing! so to do a delayed combo swing: attack + directional button, let go of attack, hold attack again, press direction button. and repeat for another swing! *note: you can only delay rightforward, right, and rightback swings! /show delays a few more times now try that out for a few mins make sure you get a feel for the timing when u think you have a good grasp for the timing try moving around, using the delays as if you are fighting someone. /check if most of the class gets it note: you can also add in some jumps by timing a combo delayed swing to hit right before you land /show jumping delayed combo swing the next technique is the glide delay swing. glide delays is another move of switching up your timing! it's a deceptive move and has good defense breaking power. to perform a glide, simply run in any direction, stop the run and hold jump at the same time do all that and in quick succession, you'll perfrom a glide jump. /show glide jump now, activate a swing right before u land from the glide jump and you'll do a swing without the wind up motion (hax). /show glide delay swing now try that out for a few mins the glide delay swing can be turned into an aerial too! to do this: glide jump, activate a swing b4 u land, and as soon as you land, jump towards your target /show glide delay aerial try that out for a few the next technique is the backflip delay swing a backflip delay swing is a swing that's delayed by a backflip. it's yet another move that can be used to throw off ppl. this is a backflip delayed right swing. /show backflip delayed right swing to perform the move: 1) swing + turn your back to the target 2) backflip + turn to face the target /show them very slowly the trick is just to have coordinated turns and an accurate backflip /show them very slowly that's really all there is to it. the only hard part is getting the speed and timing of the turns. eventually you would want the turns to come fast and natural. /show them fast now try that out for a few mins. /check if most of the class gets it note: you can turn regular swings, combo swings, combo delay swings, or glide delay swings into backflip delays /show a few examples the next move of this endless move teaching marathon is the cartwheel...delay ok no one calls it a delay. a cartwheel is one of those lara croft flips that you can do. /show regular cartwheel if the cartwheel is immediately preceded by a swing, it can be turned into a high damage unorthodox move. /show mighty cartwheel attack in different stances now to perform a cartwheel in red stance you must first do one of the left swings--leftforward, left, or leftbackward. /show swings so perform a swing and hold attack, and as the swing is about to end, press left/right + jump /show cartwheel alright, try that out for a few to aim with the cartwheel, you try to position urself and ur jump so that your saber will come into contact with your opponent. note: you can combo a cartwheel! /show combos with cartwheels cartwheels just act as a swing in the combo. so you can swing, cartwheel, swing. or swing, cartwheel, cartwheel. |
