I really don't know which is the best, so here's a poll Right now I'm torn between Yellow and red. What do you guys think? I haven't seen many use blue, so this will be interesting. I'm expecting some kind of Red-Yellow-Blue Outcome. _______________ Former padawan of RoseRed This post was edited by Eica on Jul 05 2005 07:54pm. |

Hear hear. Red is devastating, even against the best yellow users, if used in a hopping style. Greatest strength of red like Strider said - massive damage; end the fight before the other guy ends you. _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." |
Strider - Student |
Well here is how I see it. Red is best to use for Intermediate players, such as myself. I love red, but I know that once I take the time to learn yellow, it can really destroy red. So really, if you are patient enough with yellow, you can defeat red without being touched. Basically a great counter. No one uses blue because, it takes so long to kill someone, but you might catch me using it and it is quite effective since you can do a few fast attacks during one period of when your opponenet is open. Red I love mainly for the strength and precision. You have more time to accurately aim, but so does your opponent to move away. The strength knocks away I believe, every other style. Mix red with a nice hopping combination, and wooohoooo you got yourself a deadly headshot strike. .:Opinionated:. _______________ .: Proud Padawan of Dane |

To Osiris - It's not that we're closed minded. I just don't take the game that seriously lol. I personally prefer Japlus because it's got way more features, and it has a more enjoyable experience, to me anyway. I really don't find Japlus to be that screwed up, and I've dueled under all 3 dmgs, JAR, basejka, and MP/Japlus. But to each their own. _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." This comment was edited by Ecks on Aug 18 2005 02:29am. |

your detailed descriptions are really useful for us well ill just throw my two cents too then i dueled quite a lot in ja+ and in jar (basejka experience is pretty noobie tho ). its basicaly the feel of the mod. you go to ja+ server and in duel you can just stand in one place and wait for opponent to run in to it without too much aim. well ofcourse you will say that guy is a noob but somehow in jar if you are unwary (standing in one place) u will get killed pretty quickly even if you play the game for 999 years and got lots of experience. if youa re gettin pwnt in jar by newbies that just means u should have a rest and play later with better concentration. and if u are gettin pwnt in ja+... that means u are not USING THE MOD right conclusion: jar (and i think basejka) requires more skill . _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. First of all, if you duel in FFA mode under basejka, you dont start with 100/100 hp. The most significant and crucial problem for me with JA+ is the blocking system. It is mostly just based on randomness which means that ive experienced red hits getting deflected by blue stance A LOT...not going to mention yellow stance here. With autoblock enabled, such things like parries/deflects/blocks happen not only very often, but at very random occasions which adds a great luck factor to the actual dueling part. Also, the damages are extremly random as well. Much more random then JAR damages ever been. Simple yellow swings which do randomly over 90 dmg, combined in a combo of 3 swings make you somekinda able to get rid of your opponent very quickly. Ive noticed that using red on ja+ doesnt pay off most of the time, since yellow is not only favored by the allmighty guardian called autoblock and therefore able to deflect red easily, no its even able to do nearly twice as much damage once both swings of one combo hit the opponent correctly. The "MP damages" are the least fun of all the jokes which form the beloved JA+ mod. The best example here is staff. I sometimes get the feeling that staff under "MP damages" is totally useless. Not only is it helpless against the mighty yellow which makes even staffs defense go belly up on JA+ when used mainly to spam right swings. It inflicts so little damage that it is nearly comparable to blue stance itself. Even when you wiggle your mouse like on crack whilst performing scissors on an opponent which has his saber down and stands directly infront of you, it will take you more then 3 seconds to kill him. Oh and did i mention the randomness yet? You mentioned hitboxes in your post and that you dont find them odd. Personally, i dont have a problem with the JA+ hitboxes as that much. Even though they are actually bigger and make hitting your opponent easier. Edit: sigh...i definately write too slow. >_> _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! Married to Kain. I'm sorry, but if one can't tell the differences between JA+ and Basejka, then their mind is rather closed on the idea that mods don't effect gameplay. JA+ has an enormous amount of blocking for starters. There's even a command where you can edit how much blocking is done. The parries are outrageous. It seems that Slider coded red stance to do a parry on every block. The damages are insanely off. The one thing that i'll grant JA+ is that ghosting isn't as big of an issue as it is in other mods and basejka. The hit detection is pretty good. But beyond that, playing with JA+ is no different than putting the gutter bumpers up on a bowling lane so that you never get a gutter ball. An 8 year old kid can be the best player on JA+. You hardly have to aim your swings. I remember when I was on the Aurochs, we did a match against a JA+ clan. First we did duels and tffa on their server. Then we brought them to the Aurochs server, which was using a stable version of Reloaded at the time. After no more than 3 duels, the first comment that was made from that clan was "Wow, you actually have to aim in this mod." JA+ is crap, and doesn't even deserve an ounce of the credit people give it. _______________ - Proud padawan of Kueller. - We really are at the beginning of it all. But literally, aside from the hitboxes... no other real difference? 'Cause I can live with that. _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." |

Well, JA+ uses hitboxes rather than causing hits when the saber strikes the model. Not sure of the cvar. I was fighting jk13 in the JA server a few days back, and he hit me with a yellow and we were both like !?wtf how did that hit?!. It wasnt a ping issue as we both have low pings. Ive found that i get hit when I shouldnt be gettin hit on this mod, which i attribute to the use of hitboxes. In a base server, I know exactly what distance i need to be to keep from getting hit, and this logic is virtually useless in a JA+ server, not to mention the heavy damage that yellow delivers. Often times if a duel is taking a while, i will go after a defensive yellow user with red, realizing i will take some damage, but also knowing that i will deal more to them, to speed things along. This is not a good tactic in JA+, as the yellow user may cause more damage to me, as well as possibly not being hit. It plays very strange in comparison to base in my opinion. _______________ I know whats been troubling you...... |

Quote: JA+ is a joke. Seriously, JA+ is probably the worst mod ever created for dueling. Im not gonna go into detail in what forms JA+ screws up the saber system, but let me assure you, it screws it up completly. I really don't see why everyone hates Japlus. I really don't. There is nothing wrong with it's dueling system. In basejka, I would have duels where I would hit one guy 5 times, and he would still win on a one hit KO and have 100 70 life. If you're saying that the hitboxes or whatever are messed up, I don't find that odd at all. I've dueled under both dmg systems, and both mods, and they have no discernible difference other than the fact that hit detection is off in basejka. Japlus MP dmg is perfectly normal. Headshots do more dmg. Leg shots do close to nothing. There is no fakeness in it at all. _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." |

JA+ is a joke. Seriously, JA+ is probably the worst mod ever created for dueling. Im not gonna go into detail in what forms JA+ screws up the saber system, but let me assure you, it screws it up completly. Anyway, i dont see how basejka favors yellow. If basejka would favor yellow, then the devs would favor yellow themselfs and thus making the game unbalanced and yellow overpowered which isnt the case. The differences between JAR yellow and basejka yellow are immense. Its a funny coincidence that most ppl who play on the JA servers are yellow users though. _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! Well JAR and basejka favor yellow by far... but it also makes victory for red ever more sweet But I use JA+ (*shock and horror*), and it's much more even, in terms of single styles, IMO. However... duals are overpowered in Japlus, since for some reason red just won't break through it's defenses unless it was an extremely clean overhand. Again - makes victory for red all the more sweet. _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." |
